LED strip on awning roller didn't last 4 months

How well have your LED awning lights held up? For those that have them installed on the awning roller tube. I installed some in April, stuck them to the tube so they were under the flap that hangs off the front. Worked great that trip. Next trip I saw some color differences the first night, and the second night lost some of the red. Last trip, in July, they went out one color at a time. I pulled them off and tossed them in a box. I think they went bad do to moisture of the awning rolled up. The whole strip faded to a hazy white. They claim to be waterproof but those didn't work. Has anyone else had this problem? Should I try a different brand or just a different location?

Interesting thread. It seems that everyone here having problems with their awning mounted LED strips are using the colored ones? I wonder if they are not as robust as the plain white strips? I just installed a white only strip on my awning roller; have two weekend trips under our belt (one to the central coast in cold drizzly weather, the second to Colorada River in 110 degree weather). So far, no issues, gonna keep my fingers crossed.:C
  • I also ordered the water proof LEDs and I mounted it on the Rv its self right above a pin stripe so it blends in great. I also used weatherproof silicone on the ends and where I tapped through the wall into a interior cabinet where I mounted the controller.. I use it as the porch light and a strobe/color change cycle when at Talladega..

But I found a couple sets of ROPE LIGHTS at wally word and mounted them under the Rv and use them when in party mode and as a night light..
  • The connector pins fell out on mine after losing the red color. Threw them out.
  • i installed my strip lights on the lip next to the teailer itself much nicer can even turn them on when awning is in.

I had mine installed the same way on my previous TT. I always stored the TT inside a garage, and if we got any rain while camping, which was extremely rare, I'd open the awning in the garage as soon as we got home to let it dry out. Anyway, after a few trips, mine too began losing a few colors and after a year the light strip was yellowing. I don't think it had anything at all to do with moisture, I just chalked it up to cheap Chinese LED lights.
  • I also installed the colored LED strip on the awning tube, and a number of the sections have gone. Will remove, and install a new white only, not on hte tube again.
  • We have clear lights on the inside of the awning flap in a slit that runs down the inside of the roller meant for the lights. We have had ours for a couple of years now and we leave them in place all the time. We unplug them and roll them up along with the awning. We do have the awning metal covers though so they stay dry when rolled up.
  • I have had a set on my awning tube for about a year now and I just had 3 LED's lose red on me our last trip. I figure if I can pay less than $20 for the roll of lights and they last me a season I'm good with that.
With that said, my next set (I buy 2 at a time) will be going on the rail where the awning meets the roof. This way I can use them with the awning in or out. Also hope it might make them last a little longer since they are not rolled up in the material bathing in the water that sits in there.
  • Our rope lights are removed and stored after every trip. I don't roll them up in the awning.
