- cruzExplorerRough2000,
I put the Carrier LP on myself. very simple installation. Hardest part was getting it up to the roof !!
Bought mine from Family RV Repair in Florida for a pretty good price.(on ebay LINK). They were very helpful with questions, and even returned my call on EASTER SUNDAY !! Also got the heat strip for it.
The 13.5 is great for the front end of the 5'er. Keeps it nice and cold. (Wish I could say the same for the 15K in the back of the trailer.) It is a little on the noisy side, but that could be because of the small area it's in. Doesn't keep us awake though !!
We live on a little dirt road in the mountains, and most of the wires are 13' ... if that! The brochure states the height of our 5th wheel at 157" with the optional factory installed 2nd A/C unit. I ended up having to raise the 5'r about 2", which would have put me at 159" ... ouch!! Which is why I went Low profile!
With the Low Profile Carrier, I'm just over 152" ... and there's STILL one cable wire that brushes against it !!
Hope that helps ...
CRUZ - TravlingmanExplorer IIAir conditioning question. I saw, can't remember if this post or not, a check and fix if you AC is blowing air out the return air. I thought it said to use duct tape to fix. Going out this weekend and planning on checking mine to see if OK, but wanted to know fix if needed. Has anyone done this to theirs?
- CHV_FRKExplorerHow exactly have the frames changed? I assume they are still retangular steel as opposed to I-beams. I know the basements are flat across do to a relocate of some waste tanks but I didn't know they were that different.
There's a 2009 RLTS at my dealer. I love the new decals and the wheels... Looks sexy but some of the other changes I don't like. I think we're stuck with ours. - HoopsExplorerSaw the new 2009 today. Mighty sturdy looking. You notice the new frame right away. Saw 2009 34, and 2 2008 35's (both models can't remember the letters) today. Mighty nice 5ers.
- Rough2000ExplorerFirst let me say that I have been reading and following this topic as well as the previous one that was shut down. Thanks for providing me with a lot of good information.
I am expecting delivery of a 2009 34RLQS in mid August. Looking forward to this upgrade from our existing Prowler Travel Trailer. I decided to jump into this topic now as some of the discussion is dealing with the heat wave we are experiencing now. First, the unit I ordered will have the duel pane windows...I think I will be happy with these.
Now, a word of caution for anyone getting the second air conditioner. The storage facility where I plan on keeping my trailer has 13 foot overhead doors. Actually 13 foot 1/2 inch. The problem comes from the fact that the Jayco Designer is an extreamly high trailer with the Coleman air conditioner. The 2008 model is 157inches or 13ft 1 in. The 2009 model is 159 inches (13ft 3in)due to the new frame they are putting on the Designer. Needless to say the trailer will not fit into the storage unit.
Anyway, the dealer and I are looking for a low profile AC unit that will give me the necessary clearence. The original AC unit is 13 inches high. Colemans low profile AC is 10.63 inches, Dometic is 9.5 inches, and Carrier is 7.5 inches. They all seem to price within $100 of each other.
Personally I think I would like to go with the Carrier unit so I would be I could keep the trailer as low as possible. Anyone have any thoughts on which AC I should go with...anyone with major problems with the Carrier unit?
Does anyone have a 2009 Designer with the second AC unit...have you measured it, and is it actually 159 inches?
Thanks for all your help through these topics. By the way, Jayco told me that they are considering a forum of their own this fall. May keep us from having such long topic and we can stay on more general issues here with RV net. - M_GO_BLUE1ExplorerCruz,
What might help in your situation is to go to Lowe's and purchase some Reflectix and then cut to size to fit each window...
For us I know the future holds a second A/C in the bedroom and possible awnings over each window... - loydtExplorerCHVFRK, the water heater will only work on gad ig you have teh LP switch for it turned on, right beside the electric switch.
I would love a link or more info on that EMS system you have there!!!! - CHV_FRKExplorerSame here, no dual pane. 100 deg outside, best we could muster was 80 in the heat of the day. Both units did not kick off until about 8 pm. One thing I did notice was the front unit was extremely wet, lots of condensation, but the rear unit was nearly dry, although slightly dripping off the roof. From another post it seems a 20 deg differential is the best we might expect. One of the jobs this weekend was to measure for tint for the windows. We'll see how much that is!!!
We had no issues with the fridge though.
One odd thing I found this weekend. We had the water heater on electric. Well while in the basement working on installing the EMS power management system (yes....100 deg outside!!!) I heard the LP running. I'm nearly positive it was the water heater. With just electric on, will it use LP to keep up maybe? Nothing else was being used. Fridge was on a/c mode and we didn't crack the stove all weekend? Any ideas?
On a side note that Progressive Industries EMS unit is very nice. Mounting was a bear and there was very little slack to work with on the THICK power wire to the breaker panel. I need to get my angle drill to get some of the other screws in. Right now it's hanging from one screw behind the power panel. The display works well and confirmed that we had good power levels. Nice to know when you are wondering. Also it shows how many amps your using. Also good to know when I'm sizing a generator. - loydtExplorerCruz, the dual pane windows would have helped here some. What I have done in the past when it gets that hot is to open the ceiling vent in the kitchen and let the exhaust fan pull some of that heat out. It all rises to the top. Also, check you supply and return openings up at the ceiling assembly to make sure you don't have a leak (supply mixing with return).
Never had a problem with our fridge, although we never turn it off. - L_MMusicExplorerHey folks!
Everything's still going pretty well.
Weird thing happened today -- pulled out the table extention and it won't get level. One side is down about 1/4 of an inch and the other side is down about 3/8 of an inch. Any quick tips?
