- AH64IDExplorerBased on his comment about 2800lb payload it appears he bought a crew cab standard bed, aka short bed, Duramax. Advertised payload of 2793 and 5er tow rating of 17,100. GVWR is 10,000, FAWR 5,200 and RAWR is 6,200lbs with a GCWR of 24,500.
Since GM is known to strip their models for advertised payload the sticker payload will likely be closer to 2700 or lower. - The_Mad_NorskyExplorer

Another thing.
Lets see, the 17,100 pound rating.
OK. What pickup cab configuration and engine is that rating for?????
It may be for a regular cab, two wheel drive, gas engine vehicle.
If, and I suspect you did, get a crew cab diesel, that rating just got flushed with all the extra weight added to your vehicle. - AH64IDExplorer

Payload is what will get you. 2800lbs has to include the driver, passengers, hitch, and any gear. With a 2200lbs advertised dry pin weight that leaves 600lbs for people, gear, hitch, and increased pin weight...unless the trailer has zero options and you never load it you will exceed the GVWR and payload.
This isn't all that uncommon on a 2500HD, if it's what you are comfortable with then do it.. just don't exceed the capacity of the rear tires. - TinbangertomExplorerSo what am I not understanding conventional trailer weight (13000 lbs)

You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make them drink.

:S I so HOPE you meant to post 3500.... - Cummins12V98Explorer IIIJust add some 19.5's and bag it!
- racer4ExplorerTinbangertom,
Did you mean to say you bought a 3500 or 2500?
Chevy says the maximum payload is 2950 lbs. for a Silverado 2500HD Crew Cab Standard Bed 4WD Diesel.
The "Maximum payload capacity includes weight of driver, passengers, optional equipment and cargo".
That means at least the weight of all the people + the hitch (~200) + trailer's hitch weight (2200 empty) + cargo.
The trailer's hitch weight will be more than 2200, unless it has no options and you put nothing in it. I guess at least 2700.
Chevy says maximum payload is 4264 lbs for the same truck except in a 3500HD (not a dually).
The 2500 diesel IS rated to pull a 15500 lb. Fifth Wheel (BC 3450TS), but it IS NOT rated to carry the hitch weight of the BC 3450TS plus all the people, hitch, cargo, options etc.
I think you will need more payload capacity. The 3500 SRW appears to be a better choice than a 2500.
JMHO - garysolExplorerIt is overwhelming for sure......... Good luck with the new rig. Nothing like that new truck smell :)

garysol yes I told them exactly what I was doing gave them all specs on the trailer, try and explain to me all payloads, pin weights, ratios and all of the above is a little overwelming, called them on my 08and they said no go 13600 thats why take the vin # let them tell me after all they made the vehicle right?
You will most undoubtedly exceed GVWR, but should remain within GCWR.
You will need to weigh the rear axle to determine if you have enough tire capacity for it.
What tires came with it?
The Big Country 3450TS is light on pin weight from the factory at just under 19%. Pin weight should be 20-25%, or 3100-3875 fully loaded. The %age will jump quick as you start adding stuff, looking at the layout.
That isn't to say a 2500HD will do any worse than a 3500 SRW, you just might bust the GVWR.. like most 2500 owners. Just watch the rear tire limit, that's a legitimate one to pay attention to.
