Is it normal for a person to be charged for a guy to come out for a flat? I have Platinum and the guy came out checked the tire and it was the valve stem extender that was leaking removed it refilled the tire and put it back on done charged $95. What is the roadside service for to charge more?

  • Guess you did not have a mounted spare as a switch would have been free.

Maybe Frank will see this post, take mercy on you and reimburse you. As stated above I guess you could have requested a tow to a tire shop.
  • The member benefits booklet lists the specific services included; almost all of them end with the phrase "Member responsible for parts & labor". Fixing your leaking valve extension is billable labor.
The only thing included at no additional cost is the limited towing under specific conditions, a few other specific items as listed, and sending a service truck if requested. Whatever you ask the service truck to fix is billable labor.

Last year while checking tires before leaving an RV Park, a valve stem broke off. Found out it had a crack.

Geico ERS wanted to tow me. I told them it could be repaired onsite. They arranged for a a tire service to come out, but I had to pay the bill upfront. I also had the tire service remove another outside dual so I could install a tpms sensor.

They charged $219+ for a new tire stem, install and labor. I submitted the claim to Geico, and received full reimbursement for everything including taxes.

Geico ERS covers the service call and one hour labor. If I would have allowed them to tow me to a facility for the repair, I could sign and drive. Go figure!

It depends on the ERS contract.
  • Paying for a service with your membership. (Help, my vehicle is down .. send me help)... You're also paying for parts and labor to the guy who does the work. If you blew an engine, would you expect the road side service to replace your engine at no cost?
  • They just pay for the guy to get there and put on a spare. If you have work done, and you did, you pay for the work.
