Phone Call from Good Sam ERS

This morning I received a phone call from a man who identified himself as a representative of Good Sam ERS asking if there was anything he could do to facilitate my upcoming due payment for my ERS. I told him no and informed him I had sent the payment of $112 a coule of days ago.

He then explained that for an additional $69 I could extend the coverage an additional 15 months to the year I had just sent payment for.

I was about to accept the offer, but when he said although they had my credit card on file, he even gave me the last four digits plus the expiration date, that I would still need to give him the first 12 digits of my credit card. What!!??

I told him I would not give anyone my credit card number over the phone especially since I did not initiate the call. He persisted and after telling him two more times, I hung up the phone.

My question to the ERS team is simple. Was this a scam or do you really do business in this manner?

    ryoung,

The Good Sam Club does have a team of agents that will "dial out" to members with a membership coming up for renewal in the same month. This team has access to special offers such as the one presented to you for $69(14 or 15 months I believe).

The offer and phone call was a legitimate call from Good Sam.

In regards to the credit card; Good Sam representatives have access to your payment history, but for security purposes, they do not have access to the entire credit card number. The reason the agent requested your full credit card number to process the promotional rate was because they/anyone at Good Sam can never just pull your credit card # up from your payment history and charge it.

If you ever have any questions about getting a call from Good Sam to renew, please call back to member services available 24/7 at: 1-800-234-3450.

    I hope this helps,

  • Wow, are they desperate for revenue or perhaps as you suspect it is a scam. Either way you were absolutely right to not give up your info on a call you did not initiate. I suspect it was a scam since it sounds like the caller was over insistent that you comply with his request. After saying no more than once I would not have just hung up, I would have made him fully aware of the lower end of my vocabulary.
