2014 Honda CR-V TOAD Metal Valve Stems

I am wanting to buy the 2014 Honda CR-V AWD for a TOAD, and my problem is that the dealer does not carry metal valve stems for the tires, it comes with the typical rubber valve stems. I called auto zone and they have no info on it so they can't order it. For those using a TPMS, where have any of you gotten the metal valve stems or does anyone know what size is needed. I haven't taken delivery of the CR-V yet, but it can't be a deal stopper, but it is puzzling. BTW, I use the TST TPMS.

Any help appreciated.

Thanks, Tom
  • There should be an aftermarket wireless monitor that integrates the Factory built in system ! I'm sure that some engineer is working on a workable system.

It would need to be a Plug And Play module that transmits the Warning Signal to the Motorhome .

I wonder if a Wireless Camera could be used in the meanwhile that shows the Tow Cars Dash on a screen . Naturally there would need to be a power source which doesn't run down the Toads Battery.

Instead of replacing the stems, find a rubber hose that slips on the stem and is big enough to touch the rim. This will keep the stem from moving outward.

2014s are towable. 2015s are not, I believe.
  • I have a 2013 Jeep Wangler it has factory TPMS, I also add the TST system when towing with the MH. Both sytems work great.
  • At one time, I purchased a set for our 05 Saturn Vue through Fleetfarm. Other Farm suppliers may also have them, or some Racing supply stores like Summit may. Like mentioned earlier, a good tire shop should also be able to help. On our 10 Malibu, I just put the TST sensor right over the factory stem and it is OK like that. Hope this may help. • Yes, the 2014 Honda CR-V AWD is towable 4 down, on page 235 of the operators manual. I guess it boils down to whether the rubber valve stems are integrated into the already existing TPMS of the car or not. As a TOAD, I want to run an external TPMS so I can view it from the coach when towing, I would not be able to do this with the auto's TPMS, so I plan to use the external TST TPMS system which requires metal valve stems.
  • Tom, I had the TST TPMS on my 2007 Honda CR-V which also had the Honda built-in TPMS for the car itself. The TST system sensors just screwed on the rubber valve stems with no problems.

Now, my TST system didn't work well so I gave it away. It was one of the earlier systems and it made my coach tires lose air. I never spent so much time with my tires as when I had the TST system installed. I now just check my tire pressue before every departure and it has worked well for me so far.

I know the minute I drive down the road that I could pick up a nail but that's the way it is.

    Good luck,
    MM.

  • I'm not sure on this but I thought that after a certain model year, ALL automobiles came standard with a TPMS installed. On my vehicles this TPMS has the metal valve stems. Now I do not know how an after market TPMS works in conjunction with one that is already on the vehicle. I know that my Chevrolet HHR came standard with a TPMS and has the metal valve stems.
