Brake Job

On my 2013 Itasca 26HE my jack levellers stop working so I took it to Camping World in Fort Myers. On my drive over to Fort Myers I heard a noise on the left front wheel so when I got to Camping World I asked if they would check out the wheel noise also. Each diagnostic cost $129.00 plus tax. The leveller motor needed replacing but they wanted to replace everything pump etc. at the cost of $2500.00 only the motor needed replacing $777.00.
They wanted to replace all the brakes on the coach rotors, calipers, pads, hubs? at the cost of $5,000.00. I brought the coach back to the RV park and removed the two front wheels which they did not do and after close inspection only found a slightly dry caliper pin. My wife documented this with pictures and sent them to Camping World. After a few e-mails and phone calls Camping World reimbursed us for the tire diagnostic $129.00 plus tax. There was no diagnostic of any form done on this coach. Lastly that noise from the left front wheel was a hubcap. PRICELESS!!!!! My advice be very careful when dealing with this company, snowbirds could end up not having enough feathers to make it home!

  • Many "mechanics" and "technicians" only know how to replace parts. A true professional finds out why something happened and solves the underlying problem before replacing parts. Unfortunately too many shops give the impression that they only hire professionals and it is the customer that is paying for their "on the job" training as the mechanic learns his trade.
  • One of the latest consumer reports magazine has an article about the increase of scams from auto shops, dealers included. Places that provide some service you needed and ask for including recalls that also provide a "free inspection" manage to find many things you "must have done". Cars are getting much more reliable, go much farther between oil changes, etc. So auto repair businesses are trying to make business. RV service / repairs are no difference. Buyer beware!
  • There is a section of the forum that is dedicated to posting comments regarding Camping World service, etc. It is monitored by Camping World/Good Sam customer service reps. They may be interested in hearing your story and may reach out to you about it.

there are unethical service providers but I don't believe (don't want to believe) that they are in the majority.

many years ago I took our family car to a Firestone dealer for a tire rotation. as the car was raising up on the lift and without the tech even looking he said (I was standing right beside him)..."looks like your front shocks need replacing". he was a young kid so I declined his offer and suggested that next time he wait until the car had been lifted and he had actually pretended to look at the shocks.

a few years ago my wife took our toad to a local Firestone dealer to have the oil changed. while there she asked them to replace a turn signal bulb. she calls me at the office and asked me to speak with the tech. when he came on the line he asked me if I wanted...now get this..."a turn signal diagnostic test ($39.95)" to determine the problem with the "system". I declined and suggested that he simply replace the bulb.

there are unethical service providers out there. be vigilent.
