I guess I didn't read your original post correctly. Doing all wheels and pads, $1500 is not out of line. 12 hours labor is about right including seals.

yes they are thicker. But If the pads are gone then the rotors are also gone or nearly gone. Why turn and know that within 10000 miles or so you will need new pad and rotors again. I have been replacing them since I stop working in a brake shop since the 72. I would pull them and mic them out and if it looks like they will turn, then turn them, Most were back in a year for the same thing again. Pads will heat up on thin rotors. Your decision.

I did the brakes all around on our 2001 F53 chassis back in 2011. At the time the best brake pads from NAPA were $85.00 per axle. Both the front and rear axles use the same calipers and pads. The front axle seals were about $27.00 each. I didn't have to turn the rotors so the rear rotors didn't have to be removed.

Pay close attention to the rear pads. Unlike an automobile the F53 chassis has a 50/50 braking system. Meaning the brakes are applied equally on both the front and rear axles. Since the rear axle carries double the weight of the front the pads will wear more quickly.

I changed the pads on ours at 75,000 miles. The rears were paper thin, but the fronts had about 30% of the material remaining. New pads all around and repacking the front wheel bearings took an afternoon. The total cost was about $260.00 if I include the grease, box of paper towels, and tax.

How long does it take to remove the rear wheels, remove the axles, unbolt the calipers, remove the pads, remove the hubs, remove the rotors, turn the rotors, reinstall the rotors, replace the hub seals, reinstall the hubs, reinstall the axles, install new pads, reinstall the calipers, and remount the wheels? The front brakes take less time of course, with half the wheels and no axles to remove. Include time to road test the finished work, multiply by the hourly labor rate, and then add on the retail price for the parts, shop supplies, taxes, etc.

$1700 is just plain robbery..
Pads can be purchased for around $60-70 per axle.
Rotors are around $80 ea
And calipers Are roughly $70 each ..

If you were getting all the above parts new than they are still charging nearly $1000 for labor.

Check parts prices for yourself ,E-bay,,rock auto and a may other sites have all the items listed above.

Its just burns me when a shop tries to stiff someone just because they are in a coach. I understand they have big shiny buildings and employees to pay for but ,,to what end.

It took three of us(Me, Myself and I) less than four hours to replace all the pads on my coach sitting in my driveway at home.

Thinking it through, if your part costs are about $475 plus some fluid etc, and your labor is about 5 hours which is not unreasonable, then I think a decent price would be about $1000. That is just for the front brakes.

If you did it yourself, which I do not recommend, unless you really know what you are doing, your could get it done for about $500.00

I just did the front brakes on my Tundra this morning. New rotors and pads it was $175.00

Considering how much a car let alone an RV relies on the front brakes (70%) of your stopping power is from the front brakes, I would be inclined to replace the rotors, not resurface them. You need all the heat eating meat on those rotors as possible.

Just my 2 cents.

In May 2014 we had pads replaced on front and rear wheels and shoes replaced on out tag wheels along with front & tag wheel bearings repacked. Total cost was $1,470.98.

Go to www.Parts Train.com and find out what the parts really cost. If you can change a tire yourself, then you are better than half way there. The rotors just slide off and back on.
