- Jimmy_DickensExplorerThe Travato is rated to tow 3500 lbs.
- studio_driverExplorerActually Sunnygirl was referring to 2000 lbs towing capacity in the original post.
Alain - wincrasher65ExplorerWe're talking payload, not towing.
- DavyddExplorerThe T1N Sprinter through 2006 was a 2500 with single wheels and had a towing capacity of 5000 lbs.
- wincrasher65ExplorerActually it has more to do with being a single rear wheel chassis. The other vans have bigger payloads because they employ the use of dually wheels.
The Promaster has a GVWR of 9,350 lbs. That usually means on a conversion you'll have around 2,000 lbs left over for cargo. That is actually a lot for a small vehicle like this.
But you need to choose carefully. All those pretty wood cabinets and bulkheads are heavy. So the more you go for that kind of thing, the less cargo capacity you have. I'd be sure to get the actual dry weight of any van you are interested to see if the CCC will work for you.
My Travato weighs around 7600 lbs ready for camping, so I have a lot of margin. But that comes at the expense of cabinetry, and the ability to stuff them full of junk. The Pleasureway has ALOT of interior storage spaces, but no open area for cargo like the Travato. So which could be accidentally overloaded?
FWIW, the V6 engine is plenty strong for this weight class of vehicle. I've found the hill climbing just fine and the sure footedness of the front wheel drive preferable. The real 17mpg economy isn't shabby either. - bobojay5Explorer

Did I hear correctly that the tow capacity is only 2,000 pounds? That seems low. I wonder what the CCC is.
Most of that 2k lbs is because it's a front wheel drive vehicle.
Expediters on ProMaster forums are not reporting any issues with the transmission, some with 120k + miles on them.
The V6 is the same one Chrysler is using in almost all their vehicles. Ram pickups, police cars & Jeeps. We have this engine in our Jeep and just love it. Smooth, quiet and powerful - stan909ExplorerYou heard correct. Promaster only has a V6 and a beefed up Dodge Caravan transmission.

every promaster conversion i have seen has this 2000 pound limit.
remember the 5100 pound tow limit on the empty promaster is with an empty van.
a conversion in effect fills up the van-combine that with a 6 cylinder-good as it is- and the max is 2000 pounds.
a promaster conversion is not the one to get if you want to tow. - SunnygirlExplorerDid I hear correctly that the tow capacity is only 2,000 pounds? That seems low. I wonder what the CCC is.
- wincrasher65ExplorerThe prototype van I reported on back in September did not have a spare. If you are going to include anything behind the rear axle, like a generator or battery box, then you have to drop out the spare tire. Considering space constraints, I doubt any Promaster B van will have a spare unless it's hung on the rear door.
It also did not have rotating front seats. Yes it is a Dodge item, but it's a $500 option from then. I speculated back in September that you have to buy the swivels as a pair, and since the driver's seat couldn't rotate because of the bathroom bulkhead, they decided to leave out both swivels. They may change that in the production van.
