Sorry to chime in so late, but I've stayed off line trying to keep from letting my alligator mouth from over riding and biting my canary rear. I'm feeling your pain as well. Roughly 30k of pain. As I've posted previously on this forum, of the 5 months I owned a 2014 Thor Daybreak XD34, it spent 4 1/2 months of that ownership in the CW shop here in Vegas having various major repairs done the the slide, the Schwintek tracks and motors and body damaged that was done at the factory prior to shipping it. Ultimately, the slide was installed out of square, so the side wall had to be cut to square and refit the slide, the slides had to be replaced as they had been damaged by the misaligned slide. The body had been damaged at the factory. The screws that hold the front cabinets in place had been run through the front fiberglass cap and the passenger side mirror had a cracked head and base. I was told it was transit damage until I and the body man who did the repair found touch up over spray in the cracks of it and where the cabinets screws came through the body. When it was finally declared repaired, the motors that operate the slide still did not sound correct to me and the front of the slide seated prior to the rear and just the opposite, so, in disgust, I literally dumped the unit at a 30k plus loss for another unit.
Stan,
Sorry to hear about all your issues too. MAN, this is just not right. I don't understand how a manufacturer can let this stuff go on like this. I am so sure I will be taking a huge loss on this one too. It is so unfortunate. The wife and I have been RVing for over 12 years straight. This has all but turned us completely off. I hope I will be able to somehow recover from this mess and move on. But right now I am looking a 160 some thousand dollar problem. - mustang652Explorer

THIS is the time that THOR needs to step it up, and show IMPECCABLE service. 3 weeks old! WOW!
The OP needs to KEEP THE INTERNET updated on this. I hope they just allow you to get another one under FULL warranty.
This would mean that they need to SCRAP the entire deal & refund, and let you choose if you will buy from them again.
If they don't there are hundreds of potential buyers who will see this. Everybody should email this thread to thor & thor dealers.
If they give you a namby pamby "well we'll fix this one under warranty" blah blah blah, they are giving you the run around.
I'd be curious your price tag.
Slide died in one week. First Camping trip out. To top it off the hot water heater did not work either. This is on top of a 25 item punch list. I can live with the small stuff. EVERY single new RV has problems. But This slide issue is on the extreme.
$167,000 was the OTD price. Thor comment and I "Thor Motor Coach being a publicly traded company will stand behind its product and we will not offer you a refund or a replacement unit". This tread has had 7,179 views. Somebody is watching. I just don't know if CW or Thor is.
There's another gentleman over on youtube that had MAJOR Schwintek issues with his 2013 36.1. Just search "Do not buy Palazzo" and you will find it. Thor offered him a replacement. He turned it down and traded out for another manufacturer. I feel sorry for who gets that 36.1. - 93mastercraftExplorer II

Let this board know when you get it back and rolling...I am concerned with Doug's comment...he knows his stuff and just who is the THOR rep?..did he himself do the work?...I only hope for all concerned that this is the last you see of this....my friends Tuscany should be in any day and he purchased in NY state....I'm not even sure if the Tuscany has those slides..bath and a half with no tag....because if it does, he will have even worse problems than he did with his Charleston...
Dean Albanese from Thor Replaced both Schwintek mechanisms. I did watch him do some of it, but I could not stay through the entire thing. I've heard that Dean knows his stuff too. Just browse over to the IRV2 Thor owners forums to see the praises. However, I am not holding my breath with any of this. Once something this major breaks, it is never right again. I don't care what anyone says. This has been a living nightmare. - crassterExplorer IITHIS is the time that THOR needs to step it up, and show IMPECCABLE service. 3 weeks old! WOW!

From an amateur engineering look I'd say they have the rack and drive gear assy in the wrong location (on the side). The slide rack should be on the bottom of the slide out so that the s/o weight works for you. As it is now, any misalignment or wiggle will eventually strip the gears.
I believe most other makes use this approach, my current Entegra does as well as my last Monaco.
Of course it's doubtful those small motors could handle that much additional slide weight.
There are huge rollers on the bottom mounted to the floor that carry the weight of the slide. I found out that one was way out of adjustment. I think that could have caused the catastrophe.
Out of curiousity, how did you know that this roller was out of adjustment, as I also see two of these things under my kitchen slide on my tiffin. Also, did you happen to get the error code from the the controller? I find it odd that I can move the slide back and forth without issues through the manual override but not through the wall switch. Please keep us posted on what the thor tech does as I would be interested in knowing to have my slides fixed for good.
One can use a dry lube. It is not recommended to use a wet lube such as WD-40 or silicon. I cant speak as to why, but all I can say is when the aluminum starts to break off and when the thing starts to where out, if you use a wet lube, the metal shavings will get hung up in the gear and make the rest of the teeth wear out faster. - 93mastercraftExplorer II

The Thor rep showed me where the rear roller was not properly supporting the weight of the slide at the rear underneath the slide. There were no errors on the controllers. The motors were both running in sync. The failure was in the lower pinion gear and teeth, all purely mechanical. - 93mastercraftExplorer II

I see the pics and where the "rep" had the shaft cut and welded. THAT MAKES NO SENSE TO ME AT ALL. I have replaced and worked (AND FIXED) scores of Scwintek slides and when you get to the point of your pics, you REPLACE both sides with a new system. Once you get to the point in your pics, you will NEVER get the 4 gears/top and bottom aligned correctly. The mechanism comes as a complete unit with shipping/alignment plastic rivets. You replace BOTH sides as a unit and then push the room till the outer flanges are flush to the outer wall. You then install your side flange screws and operate the room. Once the room moves, the shipping/alignment rivets shear off. I would like to know what LCI thinks of what the Thor rep did. Doug
They replaced the entire mechanism on both sides of the slide. He re-riveted the entire Schwintek boxes back into the wall. The steel welded rod is how they came.
