King Dome

Ok, I have a 2004 Fleetwood Pace arrow, new to us, Question, there is a kingdome satelite dome on top, no receiver, wires labeled in the overhead compartment, can anybody tell me what i need as a receiver, or is it so outdated its not worth my money to fix it.

  • That dome will not work with Dish Network but should still work for DirecTV. With DirecTV you will not be able to get any of their HD programming but you will get all of the available SD programming. This, of course, assumes the antenna itself still works. If the previous owner was a DirecTV subscriber then the antenna is already properly setup. If they happened to be a Dish subscriber you are going to need to have the antenna re-programmed for DirecTV.

You need to contact the manufacturer to find out what dome you have by Serial number, they will tell you which receiver you need.
  • All depends on what you want! If HD is what your interested in....then a new set up is in your future. On the other hand I have both an Old Datron Dish and I also have an In Motion King Dome...both work well and I'd never upgrade unless I had to! I've been with Direct TV for close to 25 year's and the Dishes on the MH meet my expectations completely!
  • It's a lot easier to go new. When you talk to installers, they're usually going to want to ignore your old unit totally and mount something completely new. This means you have a second dome and wiring run where you may not want it. We only found one place that would mount the new unit within our old dome on our 2005 Fleetwood. This may or may not make a difference to you.

I would thoroughly talk to them to make sure you completely understand what they want to do. Also ask about how and where they're going to run the cabling and how the controller is going to work - can you watch different shows at the same time in the front and the back?

You can go with the Traveler, but to me that was going to be a PITA getting it and out all of the time because we're usually never in the same place more than two nights at a time.

And, actually after we put in a new controller box, two new smart TVs and the little booster up on the bat wing antenna, we decided that going to satellite TV wasn't worth it - we get get excellent TV, and most of it's HD, over the bat wing antenna. It really surprised us. I'd try out the OTA (Over The Air) TV before you spend time and money on satellite TV.
