This is what happened to me. Take old motor to NAPA and they will have replacement motor. Mine is from a pre 92 Ford right side door window.

We had the same problem and a magnet did help us. We took a kitchen magnet and held it down next to the magnet next to the door and the steps would come back in. When we had it serviced they did replace the motor and the ground wire.

If you go to the manual it gives you some simple steps to check the switch,motor and controller. If you apply 12 v to the motor and it works its not the motor. Is the controller potted? or is it a board with individual components soldered to it?

as said already try putting 12V directly to motor if it works then its controller or switch magnet

The idea here is that if there is a sticky brush in the motor, a hammer tap will likely get it going again, albeit temporarily. Putting 12 volts on a motor with a sticky brush won't make it run. This was the case with my step.

but all u do is shut off the door switch the ignition system should then close the steps.(how mine works) I say controller or dead motor if applying 12V direct to motor does not close steps

opps I was wrong and stand corrected it may be as simple as the door switch
