Kwikie Steps

Hi All, I was backing into my weekend CG spot when the door was opened as I was sitting with the brake on and the transmission was in reverse. The steps made an awful noise, and now the steps are in the "out" position, regardless of the engine is started or not. I am guessing we blew a fuse, but dont have documentation on the location of the fuse. My MH is a 2009 Bounder 35H, looking for a clue on where this fuse would be located or how to bring this step issue can be resolved. Thanks, Jeff
  • You have to keep the steps lubed and free moving to keep them trouble free. I use a little white lithium grease in a spray can a couple times a summer and have no trouble. Be careful when working on steps. They have enough torque to remove a finger or two that are in the wrong spot when they start to move.

On my 96 Chevy chassis the fuse is a 15 amp and is in the main fuse box on the firewall on the drivers side. More importantly is what caused the fuse to blow. This drove me crazy for a while until I finally found the wire from the ign to the steps was stuck between the slide and the frame and was grounding out causing the fuse to blow. If I remember correctly it was a blue wire.
  • If you have to there is a pin, that you can remove to allow the steps to move. If you can't find problem, you will need to tie steps up to frame to retract to get home, we have used blocks to keep extended steps in place until I could repair.
  • Chances are good that you racked the stair out of shape. It doesn't take much to add enough resistance that the motor shuts down. After all that's how the system normally shuts down when it folds up.
If so it means taking them off and straightening them until they fold easily. Been there done that.
  • Jeff, our coach is on the Ford chassis and has an Intellitec Battery Control center located on the front left of the firewall. The fuse for our kwiKee steps is on the fuse panel inside the control center box it's a 25 amp.

Not sure if your setup is the same, but when you find the fuse panel/block, check for a blown 25amp fuse.

Best of luck and Safe Travels.
