- bsshelbyExplorerI appreciate all the responses and the great information!
- RambleOnNWExplorer IIThere is not much wear data out there. About all I found was a 10 year old Motorcraft 5W-20 oil analysis report from a V10 Ford truck. The oil change interval was about 3000 miles: here. Compare that with a Mobil 1 5W-20 in a E450 Class C with 4100 miles I posted a while back here The older Motorcraft oil has higher Zinc and Phosphorus for antiwear due to the API SM & SN requirements now that the maximums be lower to increase the life of the catalytic converter. Other than that though the Mobil 1 has slightly lower iron wear in terms of ppm/1000 miles, 16 ppm for 4000 miles for Mobil 1 vs Motorcraft 19ppm for 3000 miles. Thats 6.33 ppm/1000 miles for Motorcraft, 4 ppm/1000 miles for Mobil 1.
- NWnativeExplorerAlthough I run full synthetic in my vehicles, I plan to stick with the Motorcraft 5w-20 syn blend for the my motor home. My reason is simple...I have to change it every 6 months or 7500 miles according to the manual to maintain my vehicle / power train warranty. My oil changes will very likely follow the 6 month rule rather than mileage because i just won't put that many miles on the RV before the 6 month time period hits. Using a full synthetic would just be pouring money down the drain in my opinion. Any syn blend will do however, the Motorcraft can be found at Walmart pretty cheap so....I will likely just go with that. If you don't mind spending the extra $$'s, Syn is a great option...just need to evaluate the need for it based on your intended frequency of use to see if it makes sense for your situation.

I only use Mobil 1 in my rigs. It has served me well over the years. I think full synthetic is the best. Your past the break-in so go for it!
x2 - JAXFLExplorerI have run Synthetic oil in my 2008 Sunseeker since we bought it used and only drive about 3000 miles a year... so change oil about yearly.
- tpiExplorerI use the Mobil 1 5W20 EP from Walmart in 5 quart jugs + 1 quart. The overall expense of the DIY oil change isn't bad given the relatively low mileage accumulation.
I've read numerous accounts of these V10 engines lasting very well with the Motorcraft oil.
Where the Mobil 1 EP may be a better choice is where you're anticipating a long trip which is somewhat beyond the 5K mile change interval. With the 6 quart pan, I'm not going to push extended oil changes. However on a long trip 7K miles or so I'd be tempted just to run without oil change on the EP synthetic. - PatrickA51Explorer

I have run that oil in my 2005 Jamboree since we bought it. 5w-20 Motorcraft Semi-Synthetic - bsshelbyExplorerThanks for all the great input. It's been about 4 years since we had our last motorhome. It sure is great to have all the wisdom on this forum. It makes going back into rving much more comfortable!
Thanks Again,
Steve - fla-gypsyExplorerThere is no appreciable difference in performance and extending oil change intervals may void your warranty if you still have one. Choose wisely
