Need ideas on replacing crank up antennae!

I just had a Winegard Traveler installed on my Dutch Star. The old crank up antennae can't be used at the same time as the Traveler dish since it can be hit by the Traveler. I need a 10" or lower antennae in place of the crank up for over the air TV. Has anyone faced this problem and any suggestions on a replacement antennae!
  • Not that it will help you, but today I put a trav'ler on my Monaco. At the suggestion of people on this forum, I installed it a few inches left of center, and maintained 33" of clearance to my batwing.

Shame on the guys who installed it...

And you can use both. Let the Trav;ler lock on first, then crank up the batwing. Crank the batwing down before stowing the trav'ler.
  • My "new to me" 2012 Lance 992 has the Jack with mount and gauges inside, installed by the factory. Since I purchased it new I never checked to see if it worked. Well It is on but there is no reception. The red light is on and the green light is on at the plug but I can not get the blue leds to light up. Any trouble shooting ideas with out removing the unit from the roof. I have removed the inner bezel and checked connection but still not Blue LEDS. ?????

Ok Tech POLICE LET ME HAVE IT!!!!
  • Snomas.....I agree to a certain degree with "n7bsn", but I got tired of the Winegard crank up (on my 05 Diplomat) banging in the wind, the handle that would get dry and hard to crank and the fact it was tough to clean around on the rough.

I added the "Jack" antenna with it's own base. It was a pretty simple install and fit the hole where the Winegard was removed without modification. It made for a very clean looking install inside. I turned mine on in the driveway (So Cal) and got 84 stations.
  • You might be interested in this comparison of the Jack vrs the Batwing with Wing-man.

There are some truisms on Antenna's. Size matters, bigger works better then smaller and height matters, higher works better then lower.

So, a Jack, mounted directly on the roof, is NOT going to work as well as the Jack mounted to the Winegard crank-up (you can buy a Jack designed to do that).

I've done some testing of the Jensen that mounts directly on the roof, I didn't have a Winegard to test it against, but a random length of wire, connected at the roof, worked better.
Even better was a "flying saucer" antenna I bought at Radio Shack.
  • JackCut the mast down and install a Jack Antenna. It has a low profile and you should still be able to turn it.
