Ohio & Indiana Toll Roads prices

Recently towed the Jeep over most of the Ohio Turnpike east to west from I80 in the east to Illinois

Cost was $57.15 for 4 axles - it seems the price goes up each year, next time I am going to stay south on I 70 and bypass the heavy traffic in Gary Indiana and suburban Chicago -

At my cost per mile for diesel I figure I can go 200 miles further and still be even on cost
  • That's another reason to travel the side roads and see America, before it's destroyed.
  • Rather than dipping so far South to hit I-70, there are many other alternative state highways that run parallel to I80. Granted, the speed limit is slower and you hit small town America along the way. But the journey is so much more enjoyable. Why in such a rush?

I drove I80 through Ohio about 40 years ago..... never again (I hope!) After that experience, I found alternative ways to get to the Cleveland - Youngstown - Warren part of the State.

If you get an I Pass the tolls are cheaper and its good in Indiana and Ohio.

X 2 We do the same thing!
  • Yep, it just cost us a total of $63.75 traveling from the east portage of Ohio to the west portage of Indiana. Truck and TT (4 axils). And again, another $63.75 on our return trip.

There are alternative routes but certainly not shorter or faster. Also, for us, not cheaper considering the extra gas it would cost us.

We don't like paying the ever increasing tolls either but one consolation is that over the years we are seeing better road surfaces with all the reconstruction that has been going on.
  • We have had some bridge tolls where it cost less if our toad and RV were two separate vehicles rather than crossing the bridge towing it.
Tolls and fees are always going to rise. It is the easiest way for the politicians to increase revenue without having a vote about increasing taxes from the citizens. It is only going to get worse.

We have an old (44) classic that toll people think is three axle. (By SAE definition, it is two.) I can tell you lots of ways to avoid the tolls you just paid. We see it as a personal challenge.

I now know lots of routes that are cheaper and shorter albeit a little slower. That isn't all bad.
