Perplexed by Newmar

My wiper motor failed on my last trip (2 yrs old!?!). Was able to figure out how to disable that to get the old motor off. Quite and ordeal in itself.
Spent the weekend looking for the part on line without success. Called Newmar this morning and was given their internal part number. Asked for the mfg part number. Was told they don't give that out. :M Huh?
When did mfg part numbers become proprietary info? :?
This just me, does it seem reasonable to able to receive the mfg part number?
  • If Newmar will provide the part without an unreasonable markup then their policy is a plus. The bane of the RV business for customers is the OEM game. Many MH manufacturers don't even try to stock parts and just push you off to the OEMs. I always feel like I have the weak end of the stick when that happens.

Not reasonable at all. They are providing you with technical assistance (paying the person on the phone to find the PN you could not find on line), they probably have the part in inventory (which takes investment), and you want to beat them out of a sale? I call that unreasonable.

FYI -I spent 40 plus years in the parts business and our supplier's part numbers were always proprietary.

    Well said.
  • How about posting Newmar's "insider" part number here?

You never know who might know where to find it!
  • Now that you have it, try searching with the Newmar P/N. I have found many parts on ebay using the vendor's part number. FWIW, some companies (like Spartan) with give you both (their's and the manfacturer's P/N). Good luck.

Have a similar problem with a pump in my AquaHot There are small magnetically coupled pumps that circulate the hot water thru the heating system in the coach. AquaHot charged over $400 for the pump. I found an exact replacement on the pump mfgrs site and when I tried to order it they refused to sell it or give me the specs for it. I do believe that a mfgr is entitled to a markup to cover their costs of operation but I really get torqued when a mfgr treats me like a cash cow instead of a customer.

  • Onan is really bad for this. They'll take Champion spark plugs and put them in their own box with a higher price.

This is very reasonable for a variety of reasons.
    1. Proprietary parts resourcing.
    2. Maintains component integrity.
    3. Ensures reliability of systems.
