Powerful enough to pull a boat or trailer

I am now considering a Class C, after deciding to get a truck camper. I need to figure out if a Class C gives quite a bit more room. In a TC you really are pretty cramped. It would be for me and my gf and I am 6'2" tall. The other thing is, I would like to be able to pull a small bassboat, or possibly a cargo trailer, since I am a musician and tour some. Can someone give me info about Class C ability to do this? And what about gasoline versus diesel. I would probably buy a used one due to the sticker shock of a new one.

I just saw a category of Super C. What is that?

Sorry, I don't know much.
  • My Sunseeker 3050 is rated to tow 7500lbs. The separate bathroom/sink areas allow for a more comfortable "experience".
  • look carefully at how the hitch is attached. if it's bolted/welded directly to the frame, it should be ok. However if it's like mine and attached by various plates and brackets, be careful how much you attach to it. mine looks ok from the outside, but underneath it's a mess. Towing specialist I went to said no way to towing a car trailer. and that's a factory installed unit. the bumper is 2' behind the end of the chassis rails.
  • I've got the 6.8 V10 in my rig and had zero issues pulling my enclosed trailer with a Jeep Wrangler inside.
  • No problem pulling a bass boat, car trailer. We have pulling a bass boat for many years. Our 27 foot Winnebago Aspect is low enough to get into most ramps and the interior height is just high enough for me to stand. I am 6'3 and I make it. We have a v 10 which you will find is in most MHs. It has plenty of power to do what you mentioned.

I tow a 4500 lb boat, a trailer that is sometimes loaded to around 5k. It is a breeze. I'm an ex TC-er myself. The Class C Ford V10 will outpull any truck with a TC I think, because the gearing is so much better for that. Also, you won't be overloaded so easily like when towing with a TC in the bed already.

For sure. And the same is true for our Chevy 6.0L gas Sunseeker. I think the Ford Sunseekers have 7500 lb hitches. Ours has a 5000 but by the weight ratings the vehicle can actually tow close to 7000.

OP, one thing besides the toilet question, is the shower. I don't know about other brands, but I think they are similar to our Sunseeker. They raise the floor in the rear section, which gives huge storage underneath. And also results in enclosed tanks. But as a result in ours, in the shower a 6'2" person's top of the head would be up in the skylight bubble. Check that out.

  • I'll just add that since you are tall, IMHO from experience, is to actually sit on the toilet and see if you can close the door FIRST on any MH your are looking at before you purchase!! :C

Which if I where you I would look at Class C's with a split bathroom layout.
  • Most Class C MH will pull about 5,000 pounds. This is often limited by the hitch installed and/or the way the frame is extended.
Diesel Class C MHs are very rare. Most of them, if you can find one, will likely be a Ford 6.0 diesel which should be avoided at all costs. The newer diesel units will likley be on a Sprinter chassis. These have a rather small diesel that works okay for moving the MH but won't like also pulling much of a trailer.
A Super C is generally considered a class C that is build on a medium duty truck chassis, something like a class 4 or 5 truck. Most "regular" class Cs are built on a dually van cut-away chassis that is typically a class 3. Super Cs can be found built on International and Freightliner chassis, among others.
