Starting to travel 2017. Keeping st/bricks to return some of the year. Don't want to pay for tv rates while house is sitting. Has anyone ever tried to Rv satellite and receivers in the house. Seems it should be no difference which tvs it is hooked up to. May only have small internet for home computers but no landline. Always trying to keep a reign on the travel budget. I would rather spend our money on the road to enjoy than wasting it on tvs not in use. Please don't laugh at us but any opinions would be appreciated.

Though the VIP-211 series of DISH receivers is marketed toward RVers the fact is the only thing special about it is the ability to power and control the Tailgater Antenna.
Yes, you can use it in the house, The following conditions apply depending on your antenna.
RV antenna; Rooftop: If the RV is close enough to the house (like 100 feet) you can actually use it, you will need to add a bit of RG-6 to re-route the antenna's feed to outside (I can make suggestions if needed)
If RV antenna is portable (IE: Tailgater for Dish Winegard Pathfinder) No special instructions needed, use it at home.
If you use a Ground mounted Tripod with a genuine DISH shaped antenna
Same as using it in the RV, Point, and Shoot.
And that's it. that is actually ALL there is to it,
OH. If you are a DirecTV subscriber.. Dome type antennas like the pathfinder do not work with DirecHDTV and non HD is beind discontinued soon, AT&T has announced they wish to go out of the Sat-TV business as well... Sorry.
But the RV qualifies for Distant Network Service, Get the form, fill it out, fax it and a copy of the REGISTRATION for the RV, and if your account was set up as an RV account for a slight extra fee you get Network (ABC/CBS/ET-al) stations out of the greater NYC area or LA area. If you get DNS they are not supposed to give you locals. But they did give them to me when I was a subscriber and near my home.
(Yes, that is a violation of Federal law. The same one that goe DISH out of the DNS business. Think about this). With DISH this is not an issue since they do not offer DNS, but you just call 'em and tell 'em where you are and they change you over.
Finally Disclaimer/warning time:
Both Dish and Direct will tell you that you must have a different account for yoru Home and your RV.. What they can not tell you, since you only use one at a time, is WHY other than they are money grubbing "Almighty God's a Dollar and there's not enough for me" types. So I am going to tell you not to brag about it.. I did NOT do this when I had Dish/Direct. If I wished to watch a "Sat TV show" I went out to the motor home.
