StoreMore Slideout System

My Fleetwood has the compartments that come out with the front two slides, with a pass thru compartment under the bedroom slide. I haven't had any problems with this set up. I just watch how much weight I place in them, but they handle most of the items I need them to hold. A convient feature is the driverside slide has a small door in the front of the slide which is exposed when the slide is out. This is great for putting fishing poles or a fold up ladder in the full length area of the slide. Since my rv has this type, my opinion of course would be that I see no reason to avoid RVs that have this set up.

Dang, and I thought I read them all! To me that was a pretty big issue. I was always having to juggle my parking locations around so I'd have enough room to open the slides. Now that I have my DP and it doesn't have the attached compartments I don't have as many problems, but I do open the slides out over obstructions a lot that would have been problems with the previous motorhome.

Also to the OP, one thing I do when I pull into a campsite is not open the slides first thing. Since I have three slides pretty much every compartment is under them. So I go do all my hookups first and then pull out the chairs and tables and mats all with the slides closed. Then I open them. Then I rarely have to get into the slides while set up camping.

Having had both types I will tell you that I like the pass though better, even though it is hard to get under the slides. I like having the more room.

But let me tell you one problem with the attached compartments that hasn't been mentioned yet and that's clearance when opening the slide. Lots of times tight camping spaces will have objects along the sides like hose bibs, electrical boxes, shrubs, lights, decorative rocks, etc. Sometimes these things get in the way of opening the slides and even if you can open the slide then you still need a few more feet of clearance to open the compartment lid. With my current motorhome I find myself opening the slide over the top of these obstructions that would have caused issues for the previous MH.

Our first MH was a 05 Journey 34H and we now have a 06 Horizon 40KD and both have the storage compartments that come out with the slides. The only drawback in my opinion is the lack of pass thru storage which does limit the amount of storage you have. We still have plenty of storage and have never worried about not enough storage and we are full-timers. Yes you do have to take in to account the slides when parking at a new site to make sure you don't open the slides into poles, etc. The service bay is not on a slide out so the bay is heated as well as the holding tanks. I have seen several people mention they did not want the storage that comes out with the slide because they wanted pass thru storage. I may be wrong but I believe that pass thru storage requires a rear engine/raise rail configuration. On front engine MH's the drive line runs thru the area that would be pass thru storage.

My storage also moves out with the slide (23.5 feeet long). My last coach didn't. This was one of the features that helped me decide on the Pace. Since the slide room above is heated, there would be little chance of things freezing inside unless it were extreamly cold for quite awhile. And no more headaches.

I have a 2006 Itasca Ellipse that has the Store-Mor slides, and specifically looked for a motorhome that had it. As a full timer, I'm constantly opening the storage bays, and after constantly bending over and hitting my head on my last MH I'm very happy with this feature. If you look at the rails on a Store-Mor, you'll see that they're significantly larger than those on a conventional slide, and I've been told by Winnebago that each compartment can safely hold 300 pounds. Yes, it does reduce the storage area, but it's worth it to me for the convenience. We keep food and fluids in the compartments and have been down to 12 degrees without freezing, so I don't believe heating is an issue (the water bay is not a slide-out, and is heated). I see it as a matter of preference, nothing more.

I have had three Winnebago's and understand that most "store More" slides are rated to hold 300 pounds. Not a problem if you watch the weight. however ????

I had not noticed that. I'm looking used, not new, and it seems to be through most of the product line in the years I've been studying brochures, about 2000 to 2006, even in the Diesel Itasca Horizon and Winnebago Journey, which are two lines I'm very much interested in.

I wonder if it is significant that they dropped this feature from their higher product lines. Sign of problems, or hurting sales?

I see no problem reaching under a slide-out to retrieve something from a compartment. After all, the door opens upward and it's going to be a little bit in the way anyway.

I don't personally see the StoreMore as an attractive feature; I just don't know if it is something worth avoiding. My concern is that I do a lot of camping in freezing weather and having heated storage is important, though probably not critical. I'm not sure how much I would need pass-through storage, or miss it if I don't have it.
