Mark! Never, ever put reefer fuel in your tank....if you're dipped, your fine will be astronomical....:E.
We fuel up at the truck pumps all the time. Swipe RV Rewards/Loyalty card for "pump start", fill up, then go inside and pay with PenFed Card. Get the "CASH" price less 3 cents, plus rewards from PenFed...Dennis - sorenExplorerI have had some success at FJ & Pilot big rig pumps with PATP swiping my credit card. The big issue I have is that it can not be done with my Wells-Fargo Visa. FJ does a $500 hold on the big rig pumps. This automatically gets blocked by the fraud dept. at Wells. Additional re-swipes will get the card completely shut down. Wells admits that this is a problem, tells me that it can be resolved when the system sees a steady volume of FJ fuel purchases, but will not allow me to use the card for said purchases. At one point I made the fraud dept. representative repeat that last catch-22 silliness to me, several times. I then asked if he was giving any thought to how stupid that sounded? Bottom line is that it is unresolvable, and they couldn't care. MY BOA card works fine.

I don't like truck stops unless I can't find anything else. IMHO, they are a pain trying to use a normal credit card, dirty, noisy, crowded and usually more expensive.
You know I have to agree sometimes (not always) they are just as you described. But in the end they always have easy access.
Clean, sanitary, efficient, convenient, inexpensive mean nothing to me if I can't get my rig to the pump easily. Access is king when traveling through. I just want to re fill and get back on the road as simply as possible - two-ninerExplorerWe have the AMEX Blue credit card. Accepted at all fueling stations. Get a good credit for fuel. Credit for all other purchases, groceries, etc.,.even Amazon.
We only use the front pumps. 42' Tour & Towed. Last summer only two places that looked questionable for in and out, went on down the road.

What about other companies besides FJ, TA for example?
Most truck stops you will need to go inside to pay at fuel desk. No big deal. Pay fuel move your rig. Don't be a tourist. Get your fuel and move your rig before shopping using bathroom etc. Don't occupy pump any longer than required.
Fueling at truckstops is all about easy access for me. I'm more concerned about easy access than cost of fuel.
I'm not a fuel timer so in the end I just don't buy enough fuel for the cost to matter. I will not drive out of my way while towing to save a few cents on fuel. - MARKW8Explorer

The Pilot/FJs I've been to, will only accept comercial cards at the truck pumps. You have to use the RV/auto islands to pay at the pump. It's all about the fuel tax and maybe rebates for trucks.

Nope, I have been using the PFJ RV card at the truck pumps for many, many years. No worries, no issues. I never use an RV pump but then I use diesel. If you have a gas RV you will need to use the regular or RV pumps but you will still want to use the PFJ card for the savings.
Are there places you can fuel for less? Absolutely! Are you assured to be able to easily get in and out of those facilities? I'll leave that up to you. I frequently fuel elsewhere but not if I am traveling from point A to point B and need fuel. I don't want any surprises and I know what I am getting, I know I will be able to eat and park should either of those be necessary as well.
Flying J was a much better business before they went broke and got purchased by the morons at Pilot but when it makes sense, it just makes sense.

Use gasbuddy.com. Much easier than using their over-priced fuel.
Perhaps fly j/pilot may be a bit higher...and it's doubtful...when you're 65' long looking for a gas station that may save a couple of pennies ($1 to $2.00/fillup) is not necessarily a good idea if you can't get in...or worse out. - Golden_HVACExplorerWhen in Arizona, if you fuel up at a passenger gas station, then your cost will be $0.26 per gallon less than the commercial trucks over 26,000 pounds have to pay.
Fred. - mdamerellExplorerJust be aware many credit cards stop at $75 or $100 when fueling.
I use the PFJ RV Plus card. I can just swipe and fill my tank. Also, since I'm a Good Sam lifetime member it knocks 8 cents instead of 6 cents off the per gallon price.
May not always be the cheapest but it is convenient for me (local station has nice new RV Island) and these days I'm all about what makes my life easier.
