Getting ready to replace the rear tires on our 2008 Winnebago Sightseer. Tire dealer provided prices on Double Coin, Goodyear RV670, Goodyear 661TTL (truck tire) and Dunlop 348's. Double Coins are least expensive $329 with Dunlops next at $425. Goodyear 670's are not being considered. Any one have experience with the Goodyear 661's ($500) or Dunlop's? I'm leaning toward the Dunlop's. Price includes mount/balance. Thanks to all who share their knowledge.

Take a look at the Hankook AH-11. One of the best prices, SMOOTH ride, handles well and is holding up well.

We always buy Hankook. Tried others, but like them the best.

I put a set of two Dunlops on my front summer before last. When I put them on they were only 3 weeks old and about 28% less than Michelin. They were made in the USA and Dunlop is owned by Goodyear. We have about 10,000 miles on them now. They have run perfectly. I have had very good luck with all the tires I have had on the last two motorhomes. In my opinion there are a number of good makers these days. The brands I have personally used and have worked well are; Dunlop, Goodyear, Michelin, Firestone, and BF Goodrich.

Michelins made in China have been brought up many times on this website! Michelin Tires made in China are for Chinese applications only. To my knowledge the only foreign tires that Michelin allows in this country (U.S.A.) are from Canada and that is only due to tire shortages by agreements with Unions. I was told this by a person from Michelins Corporate Office.

We have several Michelin tires (275/80R22.5) on trailers at work from Thailand.

After sifting through the info, there's some pretty good feedback in this thread.

I currently have Michelin's and will need to replace my tires by September. I would like the luxury of looking at other tires such as Hankook's but understand the Michelin sizing is a product of their "loyalty" MO. Wondering what a 235/80R22.5 tire size equivalent would be in Hankook's? Appreciate all the feedback as this is a very important aspect of RVing safety. Thanks!

As I have stated before, I have sold Michelins. It was not uncommon to have tires from several countries to be installed on the same vehicle. Michelin gets around the import question by first importing the tires to Canada and Mexico first, then importing them to the USA. I am not a fan of Michelin's, but to believe that they build tires in other countries that are not up to their standards - HOGWASH.

I will take it on Face value what you say is true. The only thing I would like to mention is that this can change at anytime. But there is nothing implied that Michelin will let these tires be a "lesser quality" than any tires produced elsewhere.

ABG = anything but goodyear. rivering of good years cost me 2 front end alignments and 3 tire rotations until all 6 were rivered. the tire shops loved me. Hankook AH11s 20,000 miles so far and not the slightest hint of rivering. My thought if you put on truck tires it probably will ride like a truck.

I don't know exactly why Michelin built a factory in China. My guess would be

1. To better service the Chinese tire market as it is one of the largest in the World.
2. Perhaps to export tires as China is a lower cost labor market.

I would guess 1 is the biggest reason. The reason certainly was not (my guess here) that Michelin thought China was the best place to locate tires to get the highest and most consistent quality. If they were looking for that country they would have put the plant in Switzerland.

It does not change my view that there are significant differences country to country in overall manufacturing quality. I am slowly retiring from the international machine import export business and can give you personal examples of differing standards.
