Down Home, I'm glad your trying to help with the floundering American Legion Halls! That's good news to my ears! Over a decade ago I needed help filing a VA claim (Agent Orange) so I went to the American Legion Hall in Bremerton, WA. The American Legion Hall in Bremerton told me there was nobody here to help me that they were a drinking club and they sent me to the DAV! The DAV took care of business for me and I'm very grateful to them.
I started another Veteran's day tread on another forum.
I serve 68-72 II Corps, Qui Nhon etc, VietNam.
I still serve but not in uniform.
Thanks Guys for Serving. Now help out the foundering American Legion Halls.
To our Fathers and their Generations that served in WWI and WWII, Korea and Vietnam a great big howdy.
To those that never cam back I saulet you all wherever you rest. - bigred1cavExplorerI feel very uncomfortable when people thank me for my service. I no not how to respond. I enlisted as an 18 year old kid from the south end of a major city. Was 4 A and could not get a job. 1963 and no one had heard of Vietnam the Army would threaten us by saying they would send us to Laos. 2 years later we know the rest.
I now do pro bone veterans work and have been presiding officer several times in veterans organization,. I serve on Vets Day Committee and enjoy feeding the homeless on New Years Eve. Amateur Night. The day forgotten to feed the homeless. - down_homeExplorer III started another Veteran's day tread on another forum.

I hear you Dean! I was drafted also, I had number #3 in the draft lotto! Isn't it nice to be a lottery winner. The prize for winning was a 1 year paid vacation in S.E. Asia. I was on a night Ambush squad we went out into the jungle every night and we were rewarded by getting to sleep on a supply base during the day!
Yes, a big thanks to all Veterans for their service.
BTW, I was not brave, I was drafted!
No volunteering for jungle hikes here....but got to do it anyway. - J_R2ExplorerThank you men and women of all the branches, for sustaining our liberties.
- obgrahamExplorerI too expressed my thanks to several Veterans I saw this past week.
During this year I've done a lot of genealogy research -- and so I poignantly remembered a newly discovered relative who died in World War I.
Please keep in mind that regardless of how we might interpret others' behavior, Canada has NOTHING to apologize for when it comes to its military history. Nothing at all.
We owe a huge debt to our current Veterans, and all those who never returned:"To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high." - deandecExplorerYes, a big thanks to all Veterans for their service.

That wasn't the case when I was in the Navy (75-81), but none of it compares to what the poor Vietnam Vets had to endure.
On the bright side, for the first time in my life someone actually thanked me for my service when it came up in a conversation last year. I found it amazing how good that felt even 33 years after I got out.

05 Travel Supreme Envoy - jsmartExplorerI too echo the sentiments of others on this post in thanking veterans everywhere. I am a vietnam era veteran, dad was an Air Force lifer and granpa was in WWII.
Thank God we have the freedoms we have because of veterans. - rgatijnet1Explorer IIIIn my family it was an honor to serve in the military. It was our small way to repay the sacrifices made by those veterans before us. I served in the US Navy, my Son retired five years ago after 25 years in the US Navy. Our Granddaughter is married to a career US Navy man.
I heard on the news this morning that of today's youth, only 30% are physically and mentally eligible to serve in the military. The other 70% are either too obese, lack an education, or have a criminal record. Sad
