I installed a trans temp gauge on mine, and going over some steep passes I will get trans temps of 200-210, so if you move that cooler from out in front where it is getting air, you might get high temps
wow our 12 speed Meritor SmartShift barely ever gets over 125, even on 7% grades ! - WILDEBILL308Explorer II

Although this thread can be informative, it is composed mostly of mundane maintenance items that have been performed. I wish that it could evolve into something about wildly creative and innovative approaches to resolving issues with our Class A MH's. Don't get me wrong, I understand the motivation for this thread and subscribe to it, but I often hope for more?
Show us your wildly creative and innovative approaches to resolving issues with our Class A MH's. What have you done to your coach today?
Bill - WILDEBILL308Explorer IIOne other thing you can do to help air flow is to make shore all the air leaks are plugged and there is no ware for the air to go except through the radiator.
There use to be some post on how to build ducks so the air would be forced through the radiator. Some of the older class A coaches had lots of gaps.

On my P30 the trans cooler is in the same spot as yours, if you move it out of the front of the radiator, your trans temp might rise.

Is your fan kicking in when the temps rise? my 454 holds temp at 210, only when climbing will it rise up to 220 then the clutch fan kicks in and brings the temp down.
Also at least on mine 1995, there is no radiator baffle or shroud on the outside of the radiator.
would like to know how hot your engine gets.
you never did say how hot your engine gets
It has a mechanical fan with a new clutch. I can hear it kicking in. I don't k ow how hot it gets since I only recently installed the temp gauge. I was relying on the stock gauge which seems to be accurate. The middle looks like 220 according to the new gauge. On a recent trip, before the new temp gauge, the stock gauge pegged in the red a couple of times. It ran to the right of center the whole trip.
Maybe I'll keep the trans cooler where it is. There's a trans temp gauge installed in mine but it was never hooked up. I bought a sender for it. I'm also going to get a deep pan with cooling tubes in it. It also has a bung for the sender and a drain.
I know the 454's have a reputation for running hot, but I have heard from several people, and now you, that they can and do run cool. - cj7365Explorer

Replaced the 30-year-old, faded plastic trim with new black stuff. It really makes the old girl look much better.
Scrubbed the back of it, which hadn't been done since I got it (lots of stuff growing back there from its time in the tow yard before I bought it). It really cleaned up nice.
More importantly, started the radiator R&R. The old 454 runs REALLY hot. I have friends with the same or similar P30s without this issue so I'm hoping the radiator will do it. Everything else cooling-wise is new. Good news is that everything holding it in is un-bolted. All of the fittings for the trans cooler, oil cooler, etc. are free but I haven't drained the oils yet (just the coolant).
I'm thinking of relocating the trans cooler so it doesn't interfere with the radiator. Does that make sense? Also, it looks like there may have been a baffle at some point to keep air from going over top of the radiator. I will try to duplicate that.

- jpmihalkExplorerSeveral projects in the works - replacing the fuel pump and filter on my Onan Marquis 7K generator, replacing the broken old awning with a Dometic 9100 power awning, replacing slide topper material, replacing an HWH series 200 jack where the cylinder has gone bad, installing a ProWatt SW 1000 inverter and replacing the Norcold with a residential fridge. Should be finished next week in time for a weekend trial run.
- KidooExplorerGot my Kwikee jacks to work, again..., I directly grounded the 2 way valve and it worked, don't know why but it work.

Found a small leak in my radiator, was quoted $3000, outch. Trying to figure out a way to reduce the bill. These toys are expensive to maintain!
Where is the leak? You might be able to repair it cheaper than that.
Bill
The leak is gettin worst. The shop told me they could repair, but there are a few tubes that are leaking. I will take it out this week and send it for a heavier gauge recore.
