Also at least on mine 1995, there is no radiator baffle or shroud on the outside of the radiator.
Found this in my literature. It says (#5) to seal the top of the rad support and body to keep hot air from being drawn over top of the radiator at idle. That explains what appears to be missing on mine. There must have been a baffle mount to the body - remnants are in the center on the top of the rad support.

Has it always run hot or has it gotten worse as time goes on? While you have the radiator out you could add a upgraded fan and a heavy duty fan clutch. look hear

I don't know. I bought it with a blown engine in Dec 2013 and put it on the road in May of 2014, so "always" is only 2 seasons now. Maybe it got too hot on the previous owner? Dunno the history since I bought it from the towing company. The #3 piston came apart and demolished everything. I put a low-mileage GM Performance crate engine in it, truck spec. A new water pump and hoses were part of the swap. It runs really nice, but hot in the warm weather. Now that you've posed that question, however, I do know it NEVER got as hot last season as it did on my trip to Hershey this season. So I guess it is getting hotter.
The clutch for the fan is new, but I could look into a heavy duty one. My dad actually has one that he used during his TT towing days that he's been trying to push off on me. He says it's centrifugal rather than thermostatic like the stock-type clutch I currently have.
I'm going to have the radiator recored anyway - it's 30+ years old and probably due. Plus I've gone through all this effort to remove it. - Canadian_RainbiExplorerThought about all the things I have to do to get it ready for the Vancouver Islanders FMCA Chapter 4 day Boondocking Rally at Cowichan Bay staring Thursday noon. Hmm. Hardly enough time left! :R
I don't even have enough time to get the satellite system working again. :(
Fortunately, with our drought conditions, I won't feel guilty about not having washed it! At least we're at an industrial site, not an RV Resort. :B - WILDEBILL308Explorer II

One other thing you can do to help air flow is to make shore all the air leaks are plugged and there is no ware for the air to go except through the radiator.
There use to be some post on how to build ducks so the air would be forced through the radiator. Some of the older class A coaches had lots of gaps.

Thanks for the suggestion. Mines actually pretty tight. The only place for air to escape is the bottom, between the rad and bumper. I may put a baffle there.

Bill, no need to attack? I just hope for more than: I just replaced my oil filter and cleaned my awning. You've helped others with solutions to real problems. It's a massive thread with a great following, but it might be time to move on?
Yes please feel free to move on. Your snarky comments aren't helping to solve any problems.

Start a "Wildly creative and innovative" thread. This thread by its very subject is about the mundane day to day maintenance of our motorhomes. - turbojimmyExplorer

It might be time for a radiator. They reach a point of no return with scale and sediment that flushing and additives can't remedy. Like mine, the fact that it's worse in warm weather points to the heat exchanger (radiator) not exchanging enough heat (assuming everything else is in good health).
I'll post back with results with my recored radiator. - Scott___JillExplorer
