- owenssailorExplorerI only use the RV antifreeze for the lines, traps and tanks. Some goes into the black tank when the toilet gets winterized. Never any in the hot water tank or fresh water tanks.
For years I've used the same pink stuff on our boat for the toilet system and also to winterize the inboard diesel. It works great and is environmentally friendly. - EffyExplorer II

But isn't RV antifreeze designed for the fresh water tank?? The whole idea it that you can put it into your fresh water tank and still be able to use the fresh water tank once it is drained out and not poison yourself. When winterizing, we just drain our black and gray water tanks. There is no reason to be putting RV antifreeze in them. And no reason you cannot put windshield washer fluid in the toilet or drains. You probably put much worse products down your drains!!!
As others have stated, please do not use windshield washer fluid. For just a little more use the product that's designed for this - RV antifreeze. it's non poisonous, and eco and septic friendly.
I have never put RV antifreeze or any other antifreeze in my fresh water tank. I have always had or put on a winterizing fitting so I could draw antifreeze directly from the jug.

I agree. I don't put anything in my black or grey. I just make sure they are empty. I was merely saying that if you chose to do so use the correct product. RV antifreeze is potable and thereby not harmful to beneficial bacteria in a septic system. And no I don't put much worse in my black or grey. Waste and TP. That's it. - BumpyroadExplorer

bumpy - PauljdavExplorerI use the widsheild wash in my toilet and the Ptraps. 1 gallon will winterize my RV 3 times. It is less than the pink stuff and I do not need much of it.
- powderman426ExplorerWhen I leave Ohio for Fla, it its usually somewhere in the teens or twenties and I keep a few galllon jugs of water to flush with. My tanks are not heated and I have never had a problem. There its only a small amount in the tank in the day or so it takes to get there so even if it froze I can't see it being a problem. YMMV
- GoldencrazyExplorerI use the "pink stuff" to winterize and then use it for liquid for toilet while still in below freezing temps. Remember it is the night time that can get very cold. I use the rv antifreeze because it also lubricates the valve. Windshield washer is by its nature harsh so it is ok in an emergency when you are out of pink stuff but not as your primary. I probably use more of the antifreeze than necessary but figure for a couple of bucks it is better to error on the high side.

However, rv antifreeze is not extremely poisonous. i.e. it won't kill you if you drink it. It only causes nerve damage.
Even though my tanks are heated I winterize and flush the toilet using rv antifreeze while on the road in cold weather. (below +10 degrees) I use bottled water for cooking. You never know when you may have a break down and or lose all heat in your RV. Many rv parks are closed in the winter so not easy to find a place to dump. Most people are only a few days from warm weather.
One RVer on this forum does use window washer fluid to flush his toilet. I have never tried it. I don't know how it mixes with rv antifreeze. - jobythebayExplorer
