Well, I did it...Committed the "sin"...When looking for blackberries to buy, fresh or frozen, could not find frozen and fresh were $5./lb @ Sams today...I broke down and bought 2 frozen cobblers!! They were high, $7.00, each but I figured by the time I bought the berries to make one I'd be out that much or more, so I wimped out..I'll put them in my own baking dish, dot them with butter and sprinkle with some extra sugar..and maybe they'll almost be as good as homemade (my kids won't know the difference)! Serve it with some Blue Bell ice cream and I'll be happy. (Hopefully I can find some berries during the summer and put them in the freezer.) Thanks to everyone for sharing their recipes...I'm going to keep them handy!

Way too much sugar, no butter/eggs...but if one's never had real cobbler, perhaps an adequate substitute!
Check your measurements.
1/2c sugar is 100g.
A Jiffy box cake mix has 100g of sugar.
A can of Sprite has 15.9g of sugar.
This recipe has a similar amount of sugar to any recipe that uses 1/2c sugar. - Francesca_KnowlExplorer

You guys are making this too hard.
For a solid cobbler that holds up well against all those other complicated recipes:
In a 9x9...
One bag frozen berries
Top with one box of yellow cake mix
Pour one can of lemon/lime soda on the top (Sprite/7up)
Into the oven, 350, until golden brown on the top.
Serve over vanilla ice cream.

Serve over vanilla ice cream. - Texas_Roadrunn1ExplorerMy grandmother made wonderful cobblers, she would make a double recipe of pie crust, roll out half and cut it into strips and bake it on a cookie sheet. Then she would put half the hot fruit (cooked just a bit on top of the stove in a large saucepan along with sugar and appropriate seasonings to bring out the fruit juices) in the bottom of a buttered baking dish. Then she topped with strips of the crisp baked pie crust and then the remainder of the fruit. She then rolled out the remaining unbaked crust, also cut it into strips. The strips were laid in a "lattice-like" fashion on top of the fruit. The strips of pie crust were brushed with melted butter and then sprinkled with sugar and baked. She said that good cobblers should be juicy and cautioned me to not use too much thickener, whatever i chose to use. If I have time I use this method. All the crust is crisp and there is no bottom crust. Blackberry is a favorite of mine, know it will be good however you choose to make it!

Down home, the fruit dumplings that I'm familiar with are kind of a turnover but shaped like a baseball.
One Uncle made dumplings something like that. Chicken and golf ball anyone. :)
Wendy's had, a long time ago ,a dumpling, of an apple and sweet cinnamon syrup, in a pasty, that resembled a ball.
Someone made fruit and dumplings, but I don't remember who. I guess a sweetened cooked pastry dumped into the cooking berries or fruit. Dumplings with fruit in the middle, cooked in the fruit and juice would be good too. It would have to be mostly dumplings?
I always relished the pastry pieces.
Sorry I didn't mean to say your dumplings were similar to Uncle's golf balls. I kinda got the words wrong. - bhhExplorerI make a blackberry cobbler more or less from "Joy of Cooking."
Cook and thicken the berries with sugar and corn starch. I like a little cinnamon in the berries, too. It's one of the few things that I make without a strict recipe.
I like a cobbler with lots of biscuit, my wife prefers heavy on the berries. So we make it work.
