GraciesDaddy, why can't you use the clear glass lids on the stove, oven or microwave?? I use mine on the stove and in the microwave all the time. They did make some plastic lids that were shaped like the glass at one time, but mine are actually glass. Oh yeah, I have the removable handles too.
I'm just going by what Momma said: NEVER put a Corning Ware clear glass lid in the oven or on the stove. I realize my previous post was a little unclear (no pun intended) on putting the clear glass lids in the microwave... They're OK for that.
Corningwear glass lids are ovenproof and are designed to be used that way. Herself has been using her CW casseroles with their lids for years.
However the OP is discussing Pyrex which is a different animal altogether. - GraciesDaddyExplorer

- GraciesDaddyExplorerOK... If we're talking PYREX it is made of clear glass. It can go in the oven but NOT on the stove. Exception: Murphsmom's Pyrex coffee pot.
Visions® CAN go on the stove OR in the oven.
CORNING WARE®, can go in the oven or on the stove (I even have the removable handle for mine!) but NOT the clear glass lid. Use foil... or plastic wrap in the mike. - Super_DaveExplorerDecades ago I put a pyrex pie plate on a stove burner and it proceded to blow up in my face. It wasn't pretty! Note to self, never do that again!!!
- ridingfamily4Explorerback in the late 80's, Pyrex had a line of pots and pans - I know because I requested them for my wedding gifts.
I hated them! Used them a few times and then gave them all away!! I had trouble keeping temp - they always seemed to run hot - meaning burnt food. And the food stuck to them.
Mine were a caramel color and there was another line that was cranberry colored. - ramyankeeExplorerI have been using the heck out of this set.....The handles and the lids do not get overly warm. VERY nice.
- HeeHawHoneyExplorerI have a full set of Pyrex cookware. It was inherited by my ex when his mother passed away. When he left, he took the very expensive waterless cookware that we had bought together and left me with the Pyrex. I recently replaced it with new stainless steel cookware. My fiance wanted to keep the Pyrex stuff. He swears that is has the best heat retention of any cookware he's ever seen. He calls it the nuclear cookware. I'm glad he likes it. It only brought me bad memories. Be careful when bringing things to a boil, like rice, because it will boil over even on the lower temp stove settings.
- Sportsman2505qsExplorerI have used Visions since they first came out and still use them to this day on my coil electric stove. I have the 3 set of sauce pans. Use them in the microwave too.
- NYCgrrlExplorerIt's the tempered glass bakeware that you shouldn't put atop the stove. Been using some of my Pyrex bakeware AND Corningware pots (used to be the same company)for at least 30 years and none ever shattered on me. I did make a clafouti (twas my fav dish for that dessert...sigh) in a 1940's era Fire King oval casserole that split in the oven one day but still dinna shatter.
