CW Malfunctions

Hello All,
I have some questions for the CW folks. To give you some history, DW and I purchased a 2008 MH from a CW sight unseen because we were in Germany (ARMY Wounded Warrior) with plans to return to the states in late January.

During the inspection I asked a few questions.

Where is the fuel/water separator? Tech : I don't know we only have one chassis guy here.

When setting up our 2013 Ford Focus to be towed 4 down, I was told to leave the ignition in the on position with the battery connected. I upset 4 of the techs and the managers by insisting they follow the instructions in my Ford owners manual. There was a serious communication break down between my sales person, the service manager and the tech because I asked for a battery disconnect to be installed, as stated in a e mail to the sales rep 1 1/2 months earlier. Basically, I was told, we know what we're doing. (I was made to feel like I was wrong). When they did not read the directions. (Ford says to disconnect the negative wire). Then they wanted the MH to supply the electric to the break buddy instead of hooking it up to the car battery.

We have owned the MH for 6 weeks, We used it for 3 and it has been at CW for 3. I don't want to vent the rest of this story on here, Because CW has essentially made me (a disabled Army Wounded Warrior) and my DW homeless. I would like to hear from Marcus personally to help address the major issues with my MH and that I am having with CW.
  • Zeppi-popout,

Thank you for your time and post. If able please send me a PM with the Camping World location. I would like to share your experience with our executive team for review and follow up in this matter.

    Thank you,

  • For OP, is your Ford Focus standard or automatic transmission? If it's standard the CW techs are correct. The Ford Focus owner's manual has towing instructions for both models.
Bought my first class A from CW last year and have been satisfied with my dealings with every location I've had service or purchases.

your story makes no sense to me. You purchased a motorhome sight unseen. Did a walk thru at delivery and was happy so you drove it off the lot. You don't say if it was an as is sale, or warranted. Sounds like you drove it for a period of time with no complaints. CW did not call about leveling board so you called and found they had fixed the problem, but did not tell you. You went back to CW they, for some reason, replaced the board with a used one they just happened to find laying around the shop. When you left your campsite to return to CW you drove 20 miles (I gather you were very low on fuel) and had engine problems. Apparently you made it to CW. Somehow it ended up at Cummings to be checked out. I gleened CW is taking care of that, you don't say.
    What more can they do?
As far as homeless. That happens when you fulltime and breakdown. Same as if your stick and brick catches fire. You need to have a plan B in place.
I am not a CW cheerleader and I am sorry for your service connected disibality and thank you for your service.

  • We put a deposit down on the MH when we were in Germany. The sale was not final unit we did the walk through. I would never buy anything for 6 figures without a warranty, even if it is used. This was not a $2,000 1975 class C. I drove it twice. We stayed in it for 3 weeks. The trust was with the manager at CW. He tried to convince me that the system just needed calibrated and it had been done. This was false. I told him they needed to install the part because it was part of the deal. we would not have bought the MH otherwise. We are living our plan B. However, we don't want it to become our plan A.

    The Focus is an Automatic.

I am satisfied with the sales department and the people that work in the store. It is the management and untrained techs that I have issues with. I was trained in the Army that I needed to have the manual with me when working on a piece of equipment. I still follow that rule.
  • I totally understand your point, Zeppi-popout...its about trust and honesty, NOT band-aides and falsehoods, as our experience with CW has been the same right from our initial purchase. Hopefully this will be worked out to your satisfaction.

I also agree 100% with the response from DownTheAvenue. CW has lost its focus on putting the customer first.

Why would you buy a motorhome sight unseen? It was a used RV, so why would Camping World be expected to know all the ins and outs of the chassis? Being a disabled Vet does not absolve you of all responsibility. Buying a used RV you have never laid eyes on and expecting it to immediately be your permanent home is optimistic at best. Sorry to be so blunt, but take away your injury and most people would view your complaints as sour grapes caused by an impulsive decision. Used RVs are not exactly scarce, there really is no reason to buy one without seeing it first. Nothing in your post has addressed the reason you can't use the RV. Maybe it is Camping World's Fault, maybe it is your fault or maybe it is no one's fault. Though many people on this forum will pile on and blame Camping World as a matter of principle, most people will want a lot more information before they take sides.

very harsh and misinformed response to op. cw did not follow fords requirements. no ambiguity.
  • I don't expect CW techs to know every car and MH inside and out. However, they should look at the manufacturers manuals regarding the area that is being worked on.

I can't use the MH because it is in lot at a Freightliner shop. The problem was with the fuel system. The fuel/water separator had alot of water in it. The filters were bad and everything was gunked up due to it sitting around. I due believe CW will make things right in the end. What I think is lost is that the customers are people.

Does CW have a inspection process a camper goes through before it gets resold? kind of like a car? 100 point inspection? If so I never received any paperwork stating this.

What happends when a MH comes in? Does the motor get looked at? filters? belts? oil? fuel/water separator? ETC?

It Amazes me that anyone buys an RV from CW after reading all the horror stories on this GS forum. JMHO

Heck it amazes me people buy anything from CW.
  • UPDATE:::

We picked up the MH from CW. It ran good on the way to Pigeon Forge, which is where we are now.

The list of things that need fixed is growing. I couldn't get the MH to level using autolevel, DW thinks it might be because the site is to far off level. I will check that out when we leave. Some are by nature and some are due to Freightliner and CW not making sure the MH was presentable.

We did get a call from a contact at the CW to see if things were ok.

I have yet to talk to anyone in management at the CW for a month now. Not even when we picked up the MH. So, there was-is no service recovery. CW did the bare minimum, and that was it.I even contacted CW on the Facebook page. I have yet to hear from Marcus or any of the representatives. No apologizes for the employee addressing me and my wife with his feet on the desk impressing two female co-workers. no nothing.
