Older Winegard CarryOut/DishNet question

Ok, this is for those of you who have a Winegard Carryout and also have Dish Network as a provider. Each time we go camping I always have trouble getting the Sat. to work. According to the CO instructions you run the "switch test" first, then connect power to CO wait for dish to find Sat's and then run "switch test" again. According to Dish, power up receiver - find Sat's - call to activate - run "switch test". Seems like I always have problem with point dish and "switch test". Anyone found the secret?
  • If the receiver has not "seen" a signal after about 30 days your receiver will need to be re-activated. That has nothing at all to do with a check switch. Assuming the receiver has not been connected to any other antenna then the SW64 switch will still be set.
Just connect everything up and power on the antenna. Once it locks onto the satellite you can call Dish and have them send the re-boot signal.
  • Ok, help me understand he lingo here. When I talk about de-activate and activate I am speaking of turning off and on the signal (this is so they can charge me. I do not pay for the time once it is "de-activated"). So it does not receive a signal when it is not activated. What I will try to do on our next outing is as recommended is hook up the receiver and Carryout then call for activation. :)
  • I just switched to dish this past year. I use the original carry out like you.

I only plan to stop service during winter months. At 7 dollars a month is it really worth it to stop service a couple times a summer?

My instructions are the same as yours, no power switch test, plug in wait a couple minutes then switch test again. I think its supposed to clear any memory from a previous location.

Did you set the tabs inside the carryout for dish?
I prefer to aim the dish to the sw for best reception.
I activate service at home first time for the season.

Again, assuming the receiver was not used at all since the last time it was working properly with your Carryout then you don't need to do anything other than make the proper connections, turn on the receiver for a few minutes and then power up the Carryout. Once the antenna locks on you call Dish and have them re-activate the receiver and you should be watching TV in a few minutes. If you do a check switch in there somewhere it's going to be a **** shoot but in most case you are just shooting yourself in the foot.
  • Nobody is saying you won't have to call Dish.
Just that you do not need to run the check switch.
