OK total newbie on wirings and set up of satellite receiver. It seems not all questions are answered in the install book. I have never had a satellite. Does the Dish VIP211k receiver need to be out in the open to control? In other words I do not have an open spot in the RV (Sunseeker 3050sf). I have to put the receiver in a cabinet so that would inhibit a remote for the receiver. Do I only need connect the RG6 to receiver and TV? Why all the ports on the receiver? Must I run a HDMI cable to TV? I know these are basic questions but total rookie in satellite. I can run cables but which ones?

I cannot load a picture. I changed the size now below 7K and still says to large.

Inside of a closed cabinet is questionable if the remote will work. Also there has to be air circulation around the receiver or it will shut down from over heating. Mine is inside of a cabinet and I open the door at night when watching TV. I also installed a 12V computer fan blowing on the receiver and that eliminated the over heating problem.The best picture is going to be with the HDMI cable to the TV. All of the other ports are for any other type if installations, connecting surround sound, etc

There is an RF remote available for your Dish receiver so it will work in a closed cabinet but the receiver might over heat in there so keeping it open is often a good idea.If you want to be able to watch the satellite programming in HD then you will want to connect the HDMI cable to the TV near the receiver. There is also a coax output connection which you can use to send the same signal to the other TV's in the coach but this output will be in SD.You will need to find a direct route from the satellite antenna to the Dish receiver. You cannot plug it into the coach Cable In connection as that cable will not be a direct run but will rather run through a splitter, a video control center or a wall plate used to switch between your OTA antenna and a connection to the campgrounds cable input. This connection can be modified if necessary but it's best to start with a straight run either through your window or a new cable run somewhere. Once you know you have everything working you can work on modifying that cable run.

Agree with Bill.Winegard that you need a straight run of coax between receiver and satellite antenna, but I did not run coax through a window. What I did was go to the back of my "video control center", unpluging the "TV out" and "Satellite in" cables. I ran "Satellite in" cable to the "Sat in" of the Dish receiver. Then I plugged the " TV out" coax to "TV out" on the Dish receiver. Needed short coax extensions to make it work.

No, you cannot use any connection in that box (directly) to run your satellite receiver. You will want to run the Out to TV connection FROM the receiver to the Satellite In connection on that box.
If you remove the connection in the back of that box and run it directly to the satellite receiver then that will work as well but you will no longer be able to connect to cable.

I found I have a selector box that directs the feeds to all three TV. It has one terminal labeled cable in. It has many options but that one should work for satellite. I believe if I hook the satellite to that it will pick up satellite from the main cable feed into the RV. Does that make sense?

Yes, 1 receiver, multiple TV's, all TV's receive the same satellite channel.

As to the Geek Squad, if you really mean the Best Buy Geek Squad they likely know nothing about your setup. You need to find an RV installation specialist.

your channel change will be done through the sat recviver, volume will still be done on the TV (yes the sat remote must be 'trained' for your TV) the TV will be left on (generally ) chan 3 or 4 and that is set on the back of your sat reciever. Are you using direct or dish? it really doesnt matter but I think direct is is easier to aim antenna dish, unless you are going with digital (high def) then it is the same.

You can move the cabling from a video control center IF the coach happens to be wired that way. However, there are several different wiring scenarios in various RV's. That's only one of them.
With all apologies, RoyF's description is a bit flawed. To use the campground cable input you disconnect the Cable in connection and run that directly to the receiver and then you run the TV out back to the Satellite in connection on the Video Control Center. However, this also kills your ability to use campground cable so there are additional options if your coach is wired that way so you can use both.
