Ok, I see your point now. I think some defaults were changed on my upgrade but I just changed them back and didn't give it a 2nd thought.
They are giving you the upgrade for free and want you to try their new Edge browser so, to me, it seems reasonable for them to reset your default browser. There may be other similar examples. I would only call it proprietary if you couldn't change the defaults to what you wanted.
