- donn0128Explorer II? Why do you feel you need to pay someone to do it? Unless your not physically capable resealing stuff on an RV is relatively easy to do. A tube of Dicor Lap Seal is all you need. If your physically unable, then ask in the park for a mobile RV service and pay them to do it for you. Be aware though, if you have one bad spot likely the whole RV needs attention.
- Mandalay_ParrExplorerYes, mobile service guy.
Best to have whole sky light removed and then resealed.
I tried just resealing twice and didn't work.
Now it is good. - SHExplorerWe had a skylight issue once. I removed all the trim, resealed with putty tape and sealant, then covered the entire thing with Eternabond. It still leaked. Dealer found hairline cracks in the plastic dome itself. Replaced with an entire new skylight which solved the problem.
New... - sonicsixExplorerI agree with the post above... if you are able to climb a ladder, this is a job you can easily do yourself. You will get the satisfaction of knowing the repair was done right, and it will save you some money!
- path1ExplorerEven though lots of shops in Yuma, I didn't find any shops I would recommend. Locals really don't know about real rain and damage it can do IMO.
You don't say if yours are leaking or if caulking just looks bad.
When I was faced with same problem, I was going to just re-seal but after cleaning up old caulking, I found a crack in skylight, so I replaced it.
If roof is TPO make sure the caulking that is applied (by you or rv fix it guy) is compatible with TPO.
Beautiful place to dry stuff out or to get out of the rain:) - PawPaw_n_GramExplorerI had my skylight outer cover broken by hail last March. I ordered a replacement from Amazon, and replaced myself. Easy and cheap. Much cheaper than filing a claim with the insurance company, and paying the deductible.
I strongly recommend mobile service rather than shop service for anything short of a major issue - such as when our axles were replaced.
Aside for the inconvenience to us as full-timers - my experience is that (1) a mobile service guy gets paid when the job is finished - it is to his/her advantage to get the job done quickly and minimize downtime for the rig; (2) most RV parks can recommend a reliable mobile service person/ company - recommending a service person who leaves unhappy customers behind hurts an RV park's reputation. - PAThwackerExplorerYes it is very easy to do and best of done by the owner to inspect all damage and repair if necessary. Complete remove, re butyl tape, screw down, lap sealant, and continue same for all other roof top components.
- mr3117rExplorerJust clean the area and apply eternabond. Thats what i did when my skylight was leaking. I put the eternabond right over the seal never leaked again
- ValkyriebushExplorer IICraigslist RV roofer did an excellent job, raining, no leaks. $67.00. 2hrs labor $50.00 plus parts.
