We got one of the early el-cheapo ones and it blew apart in the first few days, using it for general garden-watering chores and always turning the faucet off and draining the hose.
Finally swallowed hard and bought the DAP version, even though it was 3x the price of the cheapo. Still have it - three seasons now, no problems, very convenient not having to roll it onto a reel. We use it for general yard watering chores, washing out and filling the bird baths.
The inner plastic tube that carries the water is not made of a food-quality plastic (I think it's neoprene).
newer versions of this hose came out a couple years ago that work fine. However, they are not to be used for potable water. I use mine for the black water flush and washing the rig only, and that works great.
Along with those roll up flat hoses, I've never wanted a hose that must be extended its full length to use it when a much shorter length would suffice. A couple of weeks ago, we were on a site where an 8' hose would have reached the spigot easily, and I just dropped a coiled 25' standard hose on the ground and only uncoiled the small amount needed. You can't do that with the flat or collapsible hoses that must fully expand to be used. Using less storage space would be nice, but not worth the trade-off in my view. And then there's the reported high failure rate of the collapsible hoses to consider as well...
We went thru 3 of them before finally giving up. Every one swelled up and burst. I would not try to use one with an RV. (or even at home for that matter)
I was given one as a gift when I started full timing. I really liked how light it was and how easy it was to store. I did not use it as my 'regular' drinking water hose because I just really did not trust it (and I don't think it was rated for that anyway). I used it for washing my truck and other odds and ends.
My mistake was to leave it outside curled up next to the water spigot throughout my winter stay in Arizona. I turned on the water one day and a portion of it swelled up like a snake that had just swallowed a passing VW. I watched it, enthralled, and after about 30 seconds it burst. It was composed of two layers - The outer material, which provided all it's strength, had deteriorated due to sitting out in the sun.
Are you talking about the roll up hoses or the "AS SEEN ON TV" ones. The ASOTV ones cannot be left on all the time or they will burst. Read the label....Dennis
