Boy-O-Boy ... that's wrong on so many fronts I can't count em' (IMHO).
So by extension - if enough folks are ignoring the physics of speeding such that it appears they are getting away with it, then the physics should be tweaked so that the danger no longer exists?
I believe that's somehow related to another viewpoint on speeding in a vehicle: "You can ignore reality, but you cannot go on ignoring the consequences of ignoring reality."
Not quite, but close. If enough people "get away with it" it's not dangerous by its very definition, regardless of if you are scared of it.
Did you even bother to read the link from the Louisiana State Police?
Here's a quote in case you didn't:Louisiana State Police wrote:
Why is the 85th Percentile Speed a good basis for
the speed limit?
Most drivers behave in a safe and reasonable manner, do
not drive at excessive speeds and do not want to get into
crashes.
Maybe "wrong" to you simply means not what you agree with. - fj12ryderExplorer III

Regardless of your opinion the two are not mutually exclusive. Common sense means you keep control of your vehicle, if you don't feel you can do that at speed, then certainly you should go slower. Many people can control their vehicle at speed.
OK, I got it, the speeders get to control the behavior of all the lesser people, is that correct? - Cloud_DancerExplorer IIDon't worry about it. Just do the best you can.

The majority of the people get to "control" the behavior of the outliers. That's how most everything works in our society. Ever hear of the 85 percentile speed concept? http://www.lsp.org/pdf/troopc85thSpeed.pdf
If the majority of people are "speeding", the limit is wrong not the people. If there are just a few, write them up. - wnjjExplorer II

What ticks me off most is folks who seem to think I'm supposed to drive my 12,000 lb. Class C motorhome at the speed they want to drive their little puddle-jumpers at so as to not slow them down one iota. I can't figure out if their distain for me taking it easy in an RV isn't based on more than a speed based psychosis ... maybe it's based somewhat on sour grapes because they can't have an RV themselves. :h
I think you misunderstand their disdain. If they're behind you, they don't necessarily want you to driver faster. There's the other obvious option of getting out of their way and letting them continue on. I'm inferring from your comment about the weight of your motorhome that you agree that a sedan can safely travel at a higher speed than your motorhome. So why are you so frustrated with the drivers who are wanting to do that?
It's really simple: On a multi-lane highway, keep right except to pass. On a single lane highway, pull over when it's safe to do so. I'll give you a nice thank you wave (the full hand kind) as I pass by. - LynnmorExplorer

Although I’ve always wondered if the left lane loafers were intentional or just ignorant, and presume it’s stil a mix, but leaning towards intentional more and more after reading this thread!
I have no problem staying out of the left lane(s) - in fact I abhor the speed demon left lane(s) ... mostly because that's where (nearly) all the speed-idiots drive who think that motion physics don't apply to them.
FWIW, read more of my earlier posts ... I drove a sports car for years and have driven one of the wildest ultra-high performance ones ever sold in America for use on public roads. I know how to drive fast - but it's lunacy to do so these days on any U.S. public road.

The left is always bumper to bumper and the passing is done in the right lane. Try traveling I70 to western Maryland on a nice Friday afternoon to witness total ignorance. I believe that this 16 page diatribe proves my point that the left lane "issue" comes mostly from the speeders and not from those that have a modicum of common sense.
