- outdoorloversExplorerMy husband disconnected them to get the bed back down. We are taking it in to the dealer in a few weeks for some additional mods that we ordered so will have them repair it at that time.
Thanks everyone. - tatestExplorer IIIf not installed just right, the supports can swing over center. Some supports are actually installed that way intentionally, but not usually gas struts, rather mechanical supports. Try opening slightly more, see if struts will shift to back to oter side of center line.
- Parrothead_MikeExplorerHad this happen to me this past year. To get it to go down (if you can't force it down) you can pop the lower end out of where it's attached to the side wall of your bed frame. After playing with it for a bit I gave up and purchased two new gas struts, then installed them.
One thing I regret about the new struts is that you have to make sure they are the right size. The ones the dealer ordered for me were shorter than the ones I had. Thus, the bed doesn't open as far as it did. It's a bit of a problem, but I'm just dealing with it. - HappyKayakersExplorer IIIPush down harder.
- beemerphile1ExplorerPerfect example of a vague post. Some answers are about a slide and other answers are about support struts. A little more clarity will result in better answers.
- B_s_BunchExplorerSome struts have a catch on the rod that keeps it from retracting. You have to release it to allow it to retract. Usually mounted right at the cykinder end. Pick up on the bed and move the catch over and the bed will lower Larry

This is one reason we took closet rods and and closet rod holders and made a stable rod-like holder for when we open the bed to sort thru or store items under the bed.
We can pick up the bed with the gas struts assisting us, put the rods in place and do what we want to do without worrying about relying on the gas struts to hold the bed up.
We can take out a strut out like we did once to install larger struts to have more assistance in opening the storage area.
I keep a trekking pole under the bed to use as a prop.
I also had to install stronger struts to overcome the new foam mattress topper. - calamusExplorercan you just remove the shock for now?

I've had them freeze up before. I needed to remove them and press down vertically on them to force them to operate again (it takes a lot of pressure). They worked fine after that. The gas cylinder/strut manufacturer suggested this.
