In the video, the driver of the C said he let off his gas when the A started passing to let him get by quicker, and then he obviously hit his brakes when the A was starting to run him off the road. The A also slowed down when it was beside the C.
From what I saw, the driver of the A was an idiot (probably still is). He ran 2 (TWO) cars off the road! Then kept going!!
I am confused why people here are Monday morning quarterbacking the C driver. But whatever.
I'm quarterbacking simply because it has happened to this same victim not once but at least twice (on video). That points to him as a contributor. In all my years of driving I've yet to be "run off the road" by anyone passing me. Maybe it's because I don't hold up traffic or when I can't help but hold them up, I pull over to let them pass.
Plenty of times I've been the other guy though, following one **** for mile after mile when passing wasn't an option while he obliviously tools along.
Insurance companies raise your rates even when you're the poor victim, always getting rear-ended. There's a reason for that even though you may be completely "right". - rhagfoExplorer IIITo all of those that think making an endorsement for MH would keep something like this from happening, NOT A CHANCE! This guy would still drive like an idiot!
- old_guyExplorerit still to this day ames me how long some people live for as stupid as they are. I was an EMT/ firefighter for 30 years, pulled a lot of people out of wrecks, and saw a lot of things that made my skin crawl. guys there are a lot of stupid people in these united states. there are people out there that can't spell RV but get behind the wheel and think they can drive to arizona from up north
- BumpyroadExplorersome/many/most?? states have a standard license that is only good up to 26,000 lbs. anything over that requires a "special license". AFAIK, all diesel pushers would fall in the special category.
bumpy - GordonThreeExplorerRich and elderly would find loopholes anyway.
My 96 year old Gran gets to renew her drivers license by mail because she's handicap. Her handicap? Blindness - CavemanCharlieExplorer IIIAs for needing to pass some sort of test to drive a RV. Maybe if driving something as big as the passing vehicle. But, you should be able to tow a short trailer /5th wheel or drive a class C with out needing a special test to do it. If not maybe part of the problem is the poor drivers education classes that they have for everyone these days. In MN ,at least, those classes have really gotten a lot worse then the class I had to take to get my license in 1979.
My concern with making people take a special test is that the test would end up (in time) being prohibitively expensive for all but the rich people and a lot of us would loose out on being able to enjoy RV'ing. And, if it done in the same way as a regular licenses is it would not help out anyway. You would be surprised at the poor drivers that I've seen pass the regular drivers license exam. - SidecarFlipExplorer IIICon't matter if you agree or don't agree, once the gummit steps in and mandates licensing, you will have no choice but to comply. Best part is, it's all self inflicted.
If non commercial drivers had to do 1/10th of what I have to do to hold my CDL and all the endorsements I have... Tanker, School Bus, double, triples and air brakes and had to jump through 1/10th of the hoops and regs I do, things would be a whole lot different on the road.
It's coming, spurred on by idiots and people with no practical experience that really need to be educated or removed from the road because not only are they a danger to themselves, they are a danger to anyone else driving that may encounter them.
At least I'm already there with licensing. No worry for me. - CavemanCharlieExplorer III

I watched that video
And he says he did slow down
Everyone of us know that slamming on the brakes at highway speed is a dangerous last resort, that can result in loss of control and roll over
And the side of the road at the time of passing was soft sand
He pulled over when he got to a section that was hard packed ground
The class A driver was an idiot, driving faster than all other prevailing traffic, and passing everybody on a two lane black top
Could have been mitigating circumstances like, the Class A driver had to go pee real bad or shat his pants and wanted to get where he could remove them asap....
Guess thats why I always drive slightly below the posted limit, leave plenty of space between me and the next vehicle and when I get passed, I immediately reposition myself to maintain assured clear distance. I'm never in any hurry to get anywhere. I'll die soon enough without being stupid.
Well driving slightly below the limit in good weather, is inviting just the type of behavior seen by the Class A driver, be it soo wrong of him.
Personally I try to go with the traffic flow within reason, that road based on the video, likely would have been 60 to 65 mph. There are two lane roads in Washington state with 65 mph limits.
Now to the Video!
The Class C driver makes the comment that the driver behind him is not in view keeping a safe distance. Than if you watch the video when the class A is nearly pass him the Class A is almost to the rear bumper of the next RV in the right lane, so traveling at 55 mph 60' is a safe following distance? Wait, he had already stated he was braking, so WHY is he still within 60' or lees of the RV in front of him.
There are two drivers at fault in this case! The Class A driver for sure for passing with oncoming traffic he should have been able to see before he started the pass.
The Class C driver should have started backing off as soon as he saw the Class A coming around, as he was following so close to the RV in front of him what appears to be too closely.
One other thing, based on the time stamp the Class A was on the Class C's Butt for only 1 minute and 18 seconds, not three or four miles.
That and there was no reason for the Class C to continue to pull on to the shoulder, other than for dramatic effect!
Don't get me wrong the Class A driver was doing a crazy pass, BUT the Class C driver could have done a bit more to make the best out of a bad situation. Personally if I have someone starting to pass me, I simply lift off the throttle to just make it that much easier for them.
I agree with this mostly. - SidecarFlipExplorer IIINot a matter of who or what or how or why but more like when Big Brother enacts mandatory licensing of any RV'er that is pulling anything (trailer) or driving a MoHo.
It begs to be done and the road idiots are making that happen... - MDKMDKExplorer

What if, what if! To make judgements about the guy doing the video is not right. What if both hit the brakes? What if both hit the gas? It's easy to be an armchair quarterback.
The guy making the video is a ebegger, there's a youtube channel just dedicated to pointing out his tactics and this plays right into his MO. Every few videos there's a crisis and people send him money because they feel sorry for him. Been going on for yrs. He was in a convoy with the rest of the group of ebeggers. Notice he says he was run off the road but he didn't pull over until the guy was well past him and sill in the other lane. Drama Queen.
