- elijahsdreamExplorerThe insurance company is mute at this point, thats one reason I posted. The time it took, to which the one gentleman at the ins. co. fully admitted was their fault the camper is now junked. I was wondering if anyone else has went thru this? I have heard horror stories of depreciation, big pay offs left, but at the same time I don't feel responsible for all the bad things.
Be great to hear from someone who has delt with this. - tatestExplorer II"Totaled" usually means it is not repairable within the current value, so payoff would be current value rather than repair cost. No insurance company is going to pay $20,000 to repair something if they can total it for $10,000, for example. That might be about where you are.
What has the insurance company offered for totaling it? That's your starting point for buying a replacement.
Or have they not totaled it, and offered only the original repair estimate? That could mean it is time for a lawyer, if a case can be made that the repair shop or your insurance company is responsible for the damage, and if the potential recovery is big enough to make the case worth his time.
I'm really surprised they offered anything for the repair initially, something just coming apart while in storage it not usually covered by casualty insurance, though it might be partially covered by a service or maintenance agreement. - JJBIRISHExplorerHave any pictures…
- tbredExplorer IISo is the insurance co. offering you 1600.00 or 20,000.00? That's the part that's confusing.
- elijahsdreamExplorerWhen we arrived at the shop, there was a fella from a different insurance company present. He injected himself into the convo. He said it was a delam from heat shrinkage, as the whole camper shell appeared to have "sucked up" very hard onto the framing causing the new recaulking to fracture when any mvmt or pressure was present, basically anytime it moved. It was noticable all over the camper, ESPECIALLY when it was hooked up to the truck ( increased pressure on the structure.) But who knows what happened. I don't know it all. Just know it hadn't seen the light of day in 3 years, and I know what old musty water smells like, and there was never an indication of water intrusion....I would've immediately fixed it.
- elijahsdreamExplorerAdayjk....thats what the shop man told me too. But just so hard to hear. Thank you
- elijahsdreamExplorerSorry if it's hard to follow. I don't seem to convey things very well when I'm mad. Just so frustrating to lose something that I really like.
And the deterioration thing, the shop guy said he has never seen one visually turn that quick.
The adjuster said when he was here that he could "obviously" see it was not neglect. I believe the name "anal annie" was used. ?? HAHA - adayjkExplorerRun, don't walk from the water damaged unit. I have repaired them, and it is not for the faint of heart. Wait for a bit until you can see past the emotion, then make your next move,
- DutchmenSportExplorerI can understand how you feel.
RV.net weird. It just posted this without me submitting.
Is the insurance going to give your $20,000? Don't know what the value of your old camper is, but that would go a long way to get a new one. And you will fall in-love with a new one as well. - JJBIRISHExplorerI know how you feel but, IMHO it didn’t go from a little bubble to trash that quick… the damage may have been hidden but was already there, and would have been exposed during the repair anyway…
How I don’t know with the care you say it got…
Maybe you should be glad it happen while the insurance is in the paying mood and they misjudged the damage… otherwise they might have taken the position it was a lack of maintenance and requiring you to prove it wasn’t…
