1995 Bounder Ford Chassis Monitor Power

I am writing asking if anyone can help me with finding where the back camera monitor gets its power from. It is not listed in my maintenance manual. I know there is a fuse box under the dash and in the front engine compartment. I have checked power (12V) at the back of the monitor and the fuse is good, tested just before the fuse also. There has been times when I had to cycle the main battery switches to get the monitor power to come on in the past. Thanks. I did get my motor started, took apart intake on fuel injection and sprayed starter fluid in there and it started, I have added stable and have not had any further problems, fingers crossed as always. • Ken,

In the BCC (Battery Control Center, black box under the hood) is an ignition relay that provides the power to your back up camera. If you have the original circuit board the relay will be the upper silver relay that looks like a Ford starter relay. If you have the replacement circuit board (CB 115) the relay is on the circuit board.
The silver relay is a known failure issue. When you cycled the battery switches to get the monitor started, you cycled the relay. I had the same issue with my Bounder.

  • Wow - my 95 bounder had no camera, and I sent wife out to swing a flashlight when necessary. Didn't last too long, As you might imagine.
  • Does the camera power and monitor power come from the same place, my monitor has no power, not sure about camera, may run power to monitor from another source and see if that makes it work, comments, love this forum.

Yes they both get their power from the ignition relay. Sorry I should have been more clear. I normally group both devices as "back up camera".

  • I started my generator and the monitor came on but still no picture from the camera. Then, when I started the motor to put MH back in storage the monitor did come on but no picture still, think the relay that supplies power to both camera and monitor is faulty, when I turn the key on without starting the motor there are clicks coming from under the dash or just in front of the dash in the front engine compartment. Never heard these before now. Thanks
  • Back trying to get our back camera working, seems the monitor has power and a white screen now, but no power at the plug at the camera mount. I am thinking we have a problem with the relay/solenoid that supplies power to both the camera and monitor. This is located in the Battery Control Center as Richard told me some time ago. When we cycle the switches for the aux and main batteries shut offs the main one does not always cycle. Questions, how do I trouble shoot the relays, do I just replace or get a new camera and monitor?? 2 wires going into the camera, I am assuming one is power 12V and the other is the picture back to the monitor. I saw somewhere that the power for the camera comes from the monitor. Confused where to start, don't want to purchase new unless necessary. Thanks for help.
  • The monitor does supply power to the camera through the coax. The center lead is positive and the shield is negative. Those same two conductors carry the video signal to the monitor. If there is voltage at the back of the monitor, then check and see if there is voltage at the camera. It's possible the coax has a break in it.

    Good luck

  • Richard, if I have power to the monitor I should have power to the camera, correct. If the power and video go through the coax I am confused by the appearance of the plug at the camera, it is 2 wires and not a coax. I am thinking relay problems, any idea which wire on the camera is power and which is video. Looks like the wires probably go in the overhead and are not accessible very easily. Know I ask allot of questions, sorry. Like to fix myself, comes from 33 years of being a Public Works Foreman and a Sheriffs Building Trades mechanic.
  • Both conductors are dual function. The video signal needs 2 conductors just like the 12 volts. Your monitor may not be passing 12 volts to the camera or there could be a break in the wires. Remove the two wires from the back of the monitor and check for 12 volt out put from the monitor. One will be positive and one will be negative.

  • Checked back of monitor, no power, ran 12 v from another source, white picture on monitor but still no power at camera plug. Richard, if you can send your email I can send 2 pictures of the back of the monitor and camera plug. Normally I would run another wire outside on the sidewalk to eliminate the wire being the problem, but with the ends I have I do not know how to do this. Camera has just 2 wires to it and monitor has what looks like a coax and a plug with 2 grounds (green), hot (red) and a blue. CONFUSED but determined after checking prices at Camping World.
