2001 Itasca HWH jacks won't go up

Our jacks (all 4) go down with no problem at all. They level and hold the MH with no problems. But they don't want to retract when it's time to leave. YES, I have changed the springs to the new tapered style spring, but they still won't go all the way up. Spraying with WD 40 helped a small amount, but now it doesn't help at all. Hard to even push up with a helper bar.
Any ideas? I hate to think that all 4 cylinders all went bad at the same time. The slide works fine and I think it operates off of the same hydraulic system.

I find it hard to believe you would have 3 BAD jacks. Where did you remove the lines? At the main manifold? Are the jacks lifting the RV or are they just clear of the ground. IF they are clear of the ground, then I could see 3 jacks stuck down due to defective internal seals, BUT, you should be able to pry them up with a long lever bar and then retract fully with a floor jack once they are high enough to get the jack under the pads. When you removed the shuttle valve, did you reinstall the new one? Do NOT reinstall the old shuttle valve. The seals are damaged. Doug
  • kmb, if you go on the hwh website, under contact us, there is a service request form. fill it out and request a rga to send in the jacks to be rebuilt. if you can do the replacement yourself, trust me, it will be a lot cheaper than having a dealer replace the jacks. you might as well do all four. you get a one year parts and labor warranty on the returned parts.
my cell is 602-549-3638 if you want to talk.
i do not sell parts online, nor do i solicit work. i do work for hwh and am available for diagnostic help anytime. btw, i am on pacific time.

  • ok. I found the shuttle valve referring to the HWH website info. I'll try testing the shuttle valve and other ideas as per the HWH suggestions. Thanks!
  • Have you manually released the 4 jack solenoids? These are the "T" handles at the end of each jack solenoid at the pump. IF that does NOT retract the jack/s, then you probably have a "SHUTTLE" valve that is bad. When the Shuttle valve fails, ALL jacks cannot retract. You can still extend, just not retract. A quick test for a Shuttle valve is to put a catch pan under the Hyd pump assble and gently crack open one of the 4 jack lines at the pump. Once the fluid starts to slowly seep out, the jack for that hose will start to retract. Also, when that pressure is released, the Shuttle valve will sometimes release also. If so, you still need to replace it. Doug

Have you down loaded the hydraulic schematics for your system from the HWH website? Have you tried selectively opening the valves on the jack solenoids? There is a shuttle valve in the system, located between the jacks and the solenoids which all fluid must flow through. Your problem may be there since all four jacks are affected simultaneously.

I have opened the T-valve (there are 4) and that does not seem to have an effect on allowing the jack to retract. I'm not sure what the shuttle valve looks like or where it is.
