Blue genny guy did the unthinkable!
I have had my Yamaha 6300w inverter generator for at least 8 years and loved it ever since. Problem is the weight and size was a pain. On my Presidential Suite 5th wheel I built a special cargo rack and a beefed up receiver hitch to haul it. I even loaded it using my loader on my tractor. It would power both my AC's and more, but I seldom needed that much power and, I traded the Pres with the hitch on it.
Today I bought the new HARBOR FREIGHT 3500 watt inverter generator for $649. When you see one, you will be impressed. It only weighs 100# and fits easily in the front section of my basement storage. I ran some tests while breaking it in. It makes less noise than the yammy at idle as well as full load. I had my rear 15k AC running (starts easily), the front AC fan on Hi (both are ducted), the residential fridge on, the tv and satellite box on, converter on but not charging much, and odds and ends minor loads. I checked the display panel on the generator. It read volts 121, amps varying slightly around 14.5 and watts varied between 1700 and 1800. I compared the voltage reading to the one in my rig and it was spot on.
This generator is rated for constant 3000 watts, so I had plenty to spare. So for kicks I tuned on the microwave also and the genny picked up the load easily. Volts dropped by one inside the rig to 120 but I didn't go outside to see what the display on the generator said.
I was grinning each time I tried something new. It has an electric start and fired up instantly after I fueled it. On eco mode my wife and I were standing right above it commenting how quiet and smooth it was.
When I first saw the comparison ad between it and the Honda 3000 it got me interested. Last night I read the 15 page post on RV.Net about it and became more interested. And when I saw the quality of the generator on display in the store today, I had to buy it.
