Duo-Therm Control unit will not come on

I purchased an older RV unit recently, 2000 Newmar DutchStar 3858
The ac control unit will not turn on acts like there is no power going to it however, it has 115 volts going through all the phone cables. Any suggestions on where I should look to troubleshoot this?

I purchased a second control unit on line and it is the same will not light up, wont turn on at all.

  • The problems that We had affected the Female Sockets on the front Air Conditioner Penguin Unit . They corroded badly so needed replacement. Use a very fine Soldering Iron to de solder from the Board then resolder a new Socket into place on the board.
The male Wire Ends were fine but We replaced those as well ! As Chris indicated they are not wired like Normal Telephone wires but rather as Data Cables. Pay attention to the arrangement of the coloured wires.

We have checked all the phone cables no sign of corrosion on any of them.

Not sure which AC unit we have.they are the original ones and the RV has every option that was available in 2000

We have checked all fuses, none are blown

The lo profile the top cover has 4 screws holding the cover ON. The Brisk air has 14 screws. Which do you have? Have you checked the ATC fuse ON the front AC control board? Doug
  • I have service manuals for that on my service manual page- there are two for the 4 button, a full, and a quick troubleshooting. The easiest way to test the cable and power over the cable is by using a phone jack- plug the cable in to it and you have easily accessed wires. Not that while the cable uses plain phone connectors, the cable is wired as a data cable, not a phone cable. Data cable:

The AC Unit on the rooftop has 115 volts ac power going into it,
The Control unit inside the RV has 12.68 Volts dc power going into it

Its the older 4 button unit

We purchased a refurbished one online and it will not turn on

Your year should be a Brisk air. But, someone may have optioned the Penguin model. Penguin models are notorious for condensation corroding the telephone cable ends in the evap pan area. The FRONT AC unit is what controls the wall CCC. Check the front AC unit control box and look at BOTH telephone cable type connections for corrosion. IF there is corrosion between the front and rear that will knock out power to the CCC. So, disconnect each cable 1 at a time and see if you get power to the wall CCC tstat. Please respond of you have lo profile Penguin models. Doug

The Telco connectors in the Roof mounted Air Conditioners are problematic and are a bit difficult to change. Download a trouble shooting chart from Chris Bryant on the net! The connectors are available from various on line sources . There are several styles Tyco is one supplier!

Also there are two In line Fuses located under the refrigerator on top of the Furnace that may have blown.

Make sure that the Blower Switch located in the Water Bay is in the Off position as they also have an occasional problem which will blow the fuse!

Those fuses have nothing to do with power to the CCC system. The 4 wire connectors are just Telephone ends. Very easy to change. Doug

  • There should NOT be 120 volts on the phone cables- no matter which control you have. They are all powered by 12 volts.
I am assuming you have the Comfort Control Center- be aware there are 3 distinct versions, and they are not interchangeable. There is 4 button, 5 button and 10 (12) button CCC2. Which one do you have?
