But so is the interior. You ever have a low sun angle highlight the dust that flies off one's shirt when pulling it on or taking it off?
Much of my dust seems to be fabric related. Here is inside my power supply:
Lemme tell ya, I bought a juicy powered green laser a couple of years back that runs on a 18650 Li Ion 3.7V 2500mah battery. If I turn the lights off in the house at night, and the cats have been rustling around in everything, including chasing each others under the bed and whatnot... where I don't clean often enough... the particles you see in that laser beam shining just across the room will astound you, the laser highlights, and or backlights all of it... in a remarkable display of reflected light off of all the dust in the air.
Probably high time I buy a Honeywell air purifier or something, to clean all the cr*p floating around in the air. I'd probably cough a lot less as a result, if the air was cleaner. - AlmotExplorer IIINot sure about foam media on top of pleated paper. I saw bulk foam media in a wide range of particle size rating, from coarse dust to invisible fumes. Pleated paper comes in a narrow range, and costs more because it is framed.
And, what happens to the paper when it rains? (It does rain in desert areas too). - msiminoffExplorer II

With a very tight rig (but not tight-enough) has anyone here tried a filtered positive pressure fan to keep cigar-ash fine dust from passing through window and door seals?
Hi Mex'
Many years ago (in 2005) I brought my old VW Eurovan Camper up to Burning Man... that place is the very definition of "dusty". In preparation, I made a wood and cardboard box which sat on (and sealed to) my roof over/around my MaxxFan. The box was covered with several layers of foam filter media over household pleated-paper HVAC filters and all of the intake air into the van was drawn through the filters by the roof fan. The goal was to create a filtered-positive pressure airflow environment just like the one you are describing.
As we all know fine dust & ash are very challenging to manage, but in the end (despite looking goofy) I do think that my filtered intake air setup worked well at reducing the amount of dust inside the van, although it's impossible for me to assess how much difference it made percentage-wise. At any rate, It most certainly reduced or even eliminated the dust that would have otherwise snuck in through the leaky window and door seals.
Here's a photo:
Good luck!

If so, you could have a vacuum cleaner with a HEPA filter running while traveling. Better yet, if it was a canister vacuum such as a Filter Queen, you could have the suction hose some how sucking outside air. I mention the Filter Queen because it as 3 stages of filtration and still moves a lot of air. They are expensive but seem to last forever. Mine is over 20 years old. They can sometimes be found used very reasonable. We sometimes run ours not vacuuming but just to freshen up the room air.
- down_homeExplorer III've thought of putting filters on the dash intakes outside like the environment filters in our cars. I couldn't get up under the front of the capto see what would be required.
We were getting a lot of dust and dirt from where the Dealer cut large holes under the shower area. Factory fixed those and it cut a whole lot of it out plus added t heating and cooling efficiency.Once you could make a housing for filters replacement should be easy. there is wide variety of filters, out there.
The positive pressure from vents on top should work fine with a max air or something to keep wind from blowing the covers of vent fans off going down the road.
Surprised someone hasn't come up with a product.
Lots or RVers might be interested. - AlmotExplorer III

The closest thing I have to doing this would be having a Fantastic Vent which can run in reverse (pulling air in), place a filter box on the top, so all air being drawn in goes through said filters. This will provide the positive pressure, and keep the dust out.
This might work. Did anybody try this, and what shape - round barrel or square box? And, what to do with the vent cover?
In my "fixed residence" the amount of dust coming through the screen door and windows after few hours of heavy wind is astonishing. Even when I close the windward windows (or the door). Can't really close them often because it can be hot when it blows. - mlts22Explorer IIAussies do this all the time.

Google : "Residential positive pressure ventilation"
That search yielded some interesting info, including the thread on
HVAC-TALK - "Need positive pressure in house"
See the gizmo in response by "Carnak" (sp?) in that thread.
More research (reading) is necessary - good luck!
~ - MEXICOWANDERERExplorerThe K&N would be used as a pre-filter much like my BiPAP uses a foam filter as a pre-filter before the HEPA 2 filter pad. Those HEPA 2 filters cost a bundle but they are so fine a media they keep out pollen. The best system uses a vibrator to shake the foam (dry) and dust settles to the bottom of the box. Maybe one of those audiophile acoustic house shakers? :)
Down here, a swamp cooler is a disaster. Adding moisture to 85 degree 65% humidity air is pure torture.
