- Maine-stayExplorer2nd update: cleaned sanded and resealed with the Bondic but again it didn't hold, so today I ordered a new carb from PPL...very painful.
- Maine-stayExplorerUpdate....Bondic didn't hold, I haven't given up though, maybe it was my process so ill try it again in a few days. You wouldn't think it would be this hard to seal a plastic float.

Yeah! Congratulations! Fix-rather-than-scrap! I won't bore anyone with my personal beliefs other than fixing is green - recycling is sort of olive drab :)
Just as nice, in a case like this, fixing is green in one's pocket, a place where green is very much appreciated. :B - MEXICOWANDERERExplorerYeah! Congratulations! Fix-rather-than-scrap! I won't bore anyone with my personal beliefs other than fixing is green - recycling is sort of olive drab :)
- Maine-stayExplorerI had no luck finding a suitable replacement float for my 5500 Onan carburetor, I tried sealing my plastic float with Seal-All but it didn't hold. I had my CC in hand just about to order a new carb when someone suggested "Bondic" because its a plastic. I'm pleased to announce that it worked great! I very lightly sanded the area before I applied the bond. Just saved myself over $200.00.
- D_E_BishopExplorerMy first Onan was built in 1989 and sometime this century it started surging. I found a rebuild kit and cleaned and rebuilt the carb, no problem.
The first CARB carbs just had caps over the adjusting needles. I removed the caps first, rebuilt adjusted and it's still going strong.
Kit was an Onan and so dusty you could see where the seller wiped it off to read the part number. $27 at the time.
And thanks to Chris for the link, you came through again. - TEXASExplorerI agree. You can thank the EPA and the shake and bake state for your carb problems. Onan had no choice in the matter. Your Govt and nuts at work.

Here are the remarks from PPL Motorhomes.
"Genuine Cummins Onan 0541-0765 carburetor fits gasoline models HGJAA, HGJAB, HGJAC, HGJAE, & HGJAF. Replaces 146-0774. There is no repair kit available through Onan, just this complete carb."
$220.00 for the carb not including shipping...all I need is a plastic float that's why id really like to find a suitable replacement.
AS I have stated for years, This Carb problem is NOT Onan's fault. It is the state of California. 25 years ago, California mandated Strict Emission systems on Gensets and all small engines. That meant tamperproof Carbs. So, Onan built sealed carbs to meet the California law. Since Onan could not just build gensets for 1 state and another for the other 49, they built gensets to California's law. Which meant you had to replace a gummed up Carb, since they are "sealed". You can take them apart and clean them up. Just no replacement parts for rebuild available. Doug- j-dExplorer IIOnly suggestion I have, look among shops that are tinkerers, that keep old parts hoping they can cannibalize them. Or a shop that replaces them with new. Again, carb "cores" that might be plugged up, but a few would have good floats. Those engines aren't only on gensets, at least I don't think so. Seen ONAN engines on welders, some small equipment, might be on marine gensets also.
