- N-TroubleExplorerI never said the 6.2 got better mileage... I was quoting "The Texan" from the first page.

And I stand by my claim of BETTER mileage with our 6.2 than with the 5.3....If you think I am blowing smoke, then head to some of the GM forums and see what 90% of the 6.2 owners are saying.....They are all reporting BETTER mileage.N-Trouble wrote:

If your getting better mileage with a 6.2 over the 5.3 then there is something wrong with that 5.3as owned several 5.3 trucks and my brother now has a 12' with the 6.2 and no way does it get better mileage. Gobs of power yes, mileage no...
Who said it got BETTER mileage? 3 of us said it got within 1 mpg of the 5.3. And yes, like any internal combustion engine, if you drive it hard mileage does suffer. BTW I've owned 5.3s a 96,99,05,and an 09. Best I've got with ANY of those was 15/19.
This guy... Can you not read? And by the way there was no 5.3 available in 96.
We love ours and yes, we are getting better mileage than we did with our 05 5.3L. It is easy to tell which engine it has, by looking at the exhaust. 5.3L is out the side behind the tire, 6.2L is straight out the back with a 3" deep throat exhaust. It is one towing beast and will break all tires loose if you romp on it, so you have to get used to 400+HP and the 420# torque. According to our dealer, it is going to be the replacement engine for the 6.0L in the 14 model year.
Sorry I got one truck wrong. It was a 5.7. I can't understand why you say it gets worse mileage then you say it gets better mileage? Never mind. BTW it's got a 3.5" exhaust. Have a nice life! - mooky_stinksExplorer

Actually, comparing pre 2007 5.3 is better, because the 6.2L does not have AFM, so you would be comparing apples and oranges if using current engines. Now when the 2014 comes out, the 6.2L will have AFM and then they would be comparable......
Comparing pre-2007 5.3 motors doesn't count, since those don't have AFM.
That said, I haven't heard many complaints w/ the GM 6.2L in 1500 trucks. I wouldn't mind having one myself :) - music69ExplorerI have no problem averaging 19 to over 20 mpg hwy w/ my '08 5.3/3.73 4wd @ 70+ mph in east TN hills. Using EPA's test cycle, the 5.3 returns 3 mpg better than the 6.2, both highway and city. They will be ~ the same when towing, and folks w/ a heavy foot probably won't notice any difference. We now have 8K miles on our 6.2 NHT and the mileage just keeps improving, using 87 octane. Started at under 16 average and now over 18 average. Our 05 5.3 with the trailer towing package NEVER got more than 16 average and that was measured for 160K miles. Also makes a huge difference where you use the truck, sea level vs higher altitude. 87 octane to us, is the same as 91 to flatlanders. Also, the temptation to get it on is much higher with the 6.2L as it is with any hot high HP engine and that has a big input into mileage. It is widely known that the 6.2L will get better mileage than the 5.3L, so if your brothers truck is getting poor mileage, he, or his 6.2 has the problem, not the 5.3

- ronhuntfishExplorerI guess I'll jump on the topic too. I have a 2011 with 6.2L. My dailing driving to work without towing is 17.6 mpg. With my previous 5.3L truck got about 18.6 mpg for the same commute. That is with almost always using 87 octane gas. I also tow my 6200 lb (loaded) trailer with it. I love the truck!! Although I thought they could have put better tire on it.
