- ThreebigfordsExplorerThese two shots put them in a little better perspective. I forgot to check but I am pretty sure the F450 springs are a bit wider than the Ram's as well.
This also proves the 2015/16 build sheet guide wrong(no surprise there, it's full of errors). NOT the same rear spring pack as the F350 DRW Max Tow. - ThreebigfordsExplorerSo here is the F450 rear spring pack. Two 5/8" thick springs in the main pack and a 13/16" lower overload. Also has a single 3/8" thick upper overload
And here is the 2016 3500 DRW HD rear springs. Three slightly under 1/2" thick main leaf pack, with 11/16" thick lower overload, and also two 3/16" thick sandwiched upper overload pack.
The difference is pretty obvious even without the tape measure when you actually park them side by side.
Also notice the leafs on my F450 are not touching yet, even with 2800lbs in the bed today. ( 400lb Canopy/rack, 700lb bedslide/shelf system, 1700lbs of tools)
The ram 3 leaf pack is compressed with an empty truck. Not saying this is bad, just hoping to educate those that claim the F450 has smaller/weaker springs.
Perhaps the perception you Ram boys get of butt low F450's has to do with their starting stance? They sit lower in the rear empty than the Ram's and even the F350 DRW. It looks like the rear block is smaller on the F450, maybe to ease hooking up to 5th wheel/gooseneck trailers which is what it is geared towards. Cummins12V98 wrote:

I personally don't see much difference in spring thickness on the front end. Rear axles vary greatly though. But then I'm only comparing 2015's front ends. Truck Trend. Here, a website so that people can compare photos back to back on the 2015 models along with technical specs on frame thickness and types of steel used etc..... They stated a Dana S110 for the rear axle.
Again, these are 2015 models. 2017's appear to be significantly upgraded with a box'd frame to counter torsional twisting and re-investing into the suspension. These are the upgrades that make me say it's a monster. It's also part of the reason why I went RAM in 2013. 50ksi box'd frames. Didn't really know about the CP4 pump issue back then and frankly, I was about to walk out the dealership to look at an F-350 if they didn't want to play ball.
All I can say is the F450 is the true medium duty truck and the 2017 raises the bar even higher.
So by saying that I assume you think the RAM 3500 DRW is a "true medium duty truck" since Ford wants to always compare the two????
You assume a lot of things...- Cummins12V98Explorer III

Did you happen to notice the THICKNESS of those springs on the F450? If you had been paying attention you would have seen how much thicker they are than your Ram's and even the F350 MAX TOW. Leaf count means nothing.
So yet again you failed to name any of these "many" components that are smaller on the F450 than the 3500.
Nope, springs were about the same thickness. Just less of them on the F-450.
Bad news is, it might be time for glasses, on the plus side, at least you can still count.
Good grief!
It's posts like this that makes me hate this forum sometimes. Mind you, it may be kidding or even just sarcasm, impossible to tell on a printed forum like this. But gosh, if so, at least add a :B behind it so folks know.
Otherwise, gosh, denigrating other folks is not kosher. Kid stuff.
And here I thought we were all adults here. :S
I agree! If your going to repeatedly post incorrect info about a truck, at least add a :P so we know your kidding. - ThreebigfordsExplorerNot everything printed on specs sheets is true to life. That chart also shows the rear axle as a S111 instead of the S130 that is actually in the F450.
It also shows the F350 as having larger brakes than the F450. When the reverse is true.
Springs are also different. As has been mentioned, there are fewer leafs on the F450 than the F350 Max Tow, but they are indeed thicker.
If they were the same spring packs, they would have the same leaf count. - Rich1961Explorer

Here is Fords website for the truck specs. F350 DRW Pickup and F450 DRW Pickup use the same rear springs. Go here to see the specs on the rear springs on page 21 of 25. Strange but Ford gives the F450 a 9000 RAWR and the F350 a 9650 RAWR.
