Has anyone ever seen this before...I have an Hopkins Insight Flex controller (HM47297). It works as it should when applying the brakes, numbers as high as 45/55, however when I accelerate I see the controller showing an increase on the readout... 5/ 10/ 20/ 25/ and even have seen it get as high as 35. Question is, is the brakes actually being applied even though I'm not applying the brakes? Triple checked wiring: Module pack is pointed with wiring to the front of vehicle: Module pack is perfectly level north/south and east/west: Been speaking with Hopkins and they say they have never seen this before. That would suggest to me that your brake lights are staying on. Are you resting your foot on the brake pedal when you take off or driving with two feet?If so then that's probably it.

I would agree but no, the lights are off and no foot resting... It's a perfect ramp up and back down consistent with the acceleration. You take off the number shoots up and as you level out the number settles back down to zero.

Did you install this using the Chevy brake control harness or did you splice into the brake light switch under the dash?

If your brake lights are not on then only the controller can be bad. Without the brake lights it should never apply the brakes.But I would have someone follow me to see if the lamps stay on when you pull away. Sometimes a mis-adjusted or failing brake lamp switch will cause the lights to stick.

I second the question on how it was wired. I wonder if you accidentally tapped into the wrong wire when hooking it up. I'm thinking something like the voltage fluctuates or pulsates with speed on the power wire.

We checked the Tow Vehicle and all lights are working as they should be. I will check the “Cruise Control Brake Switch” later today, I feel that's the culprit. My Cruise Control comes on, it doesn’t set... which leads me to believe the brake switch for it is broken and it thinks the brakes are pressed. That would/could send current back through the brake system telling the "Brake Controller" the brakes are pressed when they are not. I have read that Chevy Tahoe’s are known for that issue.

Before following the trailer, I suggest you ask her to follow the TV without the trailer and confirm the lights are working correctly. That would help to narrow down where the problem is starting.

You might be on to something. The pedal switch would feed power to the cruise control to turn it off when you step on the brake pedal. Maybe if the brake light switch is bad it's feeding power to both the cruise control shutting it off and the trailer brake controller causing your problem. replacing the switch might repair both faults.

I used the built in wiring, and I will double check on the brake lights... I will have the wife follow me next pull and see if the lights are on though just the same.

Got me thinking, the cruise control stop working years ago and I never fixed it (the pedal switch) / Wonder if that switch has anything to do with it...???

Note: The controller has been replaced already with the same results.
