Anyone know how to disable the Parking aid on a new Ford?

There are some old threads on the subject but no joy. It can be disabled, but only for one key cycle. If something with trailer brakes is plugged in, it is automatically disabled. This isn't just campers, a utility trailer with no brakes or any trailer with surge brakes will have the same issue. Or just leave your tailgate down.

I'm thinking some kind of circuit in the 7 pin to fool the controller into thinking there are brakes, but internet searches haven't been fruitful.

  • Or ... learn to press the buttons to disable for the 1-2 times you backup on a trip. I thought it was going to drive me crazy, but with two different trucks over the past 10 years, it's really not that annoying. YMMV. ;)
  • It seems to me you should just be able to wire in a resistor to the brake wire on the camper umbilical. I may try it, just not sure what size of resistor to use.

It would be good because then I could name it so that the truck would keep track of mileage with the camper on.

of course easiest way is to buy the device above, but I've never seen it locally and then I'd have to have two things plugged in and it doesn't look like it has a 4-pin passthrough so I'd be back in the same boat when I was towing my ATV trailer.

When I had my 2011 Ford I had the same problem and after DJ found this solution I tried it also and it works like a charm. When we traveled to Alaska the roads would vibrate it loose so I used zip ties on it to hold the unit in place.
  • Trailer emulator

I have one and it works good.

I also added an additional flat 4 to plug in a utility or boat trailer. When the emulator is plugged in you can't open the flat 4 side.

I would call the local Ford Shop Manager for the quickest answer...

You can simply just search the internet on your post title "Anyone know how to disable Parking aid on a new Ford?" I see many responses. You can ASK the Internet anything it seems... One response was your question on the RV NET haha...

I use the FORD F150 Forum all the time researching things like this - most helpful...

There is also a FORD F350 Forum on-line...

  • On my 2013 F350, you can disable it until you physically enable it again. This is done through the Driver's Info Center. Unfortunatlely mine is in the shop for some service so I can't give you the step by step instructions in case it's the same for your model year.

  • If the above doesn't work, then another option could be to trace down the wires and install an on/off toggle switch inline.

You may get an error message when you shift into reverse though.
  • I don't have a newer truck, but if you cannot permanently do it (as in more than one key cycle) through the driver information center, if you are saying that with something plugged into the trailer wiring it shuts off, then a simple thing to do would be to get one of those plug in reciever brake light things that slides into the hitch.

I'm sure a newer truck owner will give advice...this was just a thought.
