Building a Ford F-150-HD payload?

The Harley Davidson is the top trim. Raptor is there also but I wouldn't have one. You cannot tune a ECM on a 2017 Ford. Read the Ford forums.

If someone lost a million dollars and I found it, I'd hunt them up and if they were poor I'd give it back.

I had a 2011 F150 SCREW EB with Bilstein 5100s and AirLift bags on the back, and E rated 10 plys on it. It was a Max Tow, not the HDPP.

The 2018 with the HDPP rides at least as good as that, and maybe better. It is definitely quieter. If I don't tell you its the HDPP you'd never guess from the ride.

Just an update to this now that I have 2000 miles on my 2018 F150 HDPP.

I scaled it today now that I have added the cap and various accessories, and it weighed 5950 lbs. With the GVWR of 7850, I still have 1900 lbs of payload left. Rear axle weight was 2800 lbs so 2000 left there on its 4800 rating.

Haven't towed yet, but I did put 1300 lbs of UPS batteries in it for a recycle run the other week. I could tell I had some weight back there but it rode fine, handled fine, and was not even close to stressed out. As I would expect given I still had almost 1000 lbs of payload left (this was before the cap which I'd say added 250 lbs).

I will tow next week so we'll see how it handles that.

I thought about the F250 with the 6.2, but I love the low-end torque of a turbo setup. I rarely have to rev past 3400 RPM with the 3.5EB no matter what I am towing or where. And the new one makes even more torque.

The DW's car is a 2017 Q50s 3.0 AWD, also a twin turbo. It is making 400hp/390 lb ft with a mild tune. It is very fast. :)

Amen to that! However, from what I have seen in the news they are going to have a new 7 liter DOHC engine for 2019 Superduties and the Mustang. While the 6.2 seems to be a solid engine it was obsolete when it was introduced. Maybe the new engine will offer both better performance and fuel economy. I feel sure that Ford is getting a lot of pressure from commercial users in cities to offer engines that can run on CNG.

There were a several things that lead to our choice. First was that DW preferred the look of the Superduty to the 150, and as bad as that sounds, it carried a lot of weight in the process. Second at the prices involved, we knew it would be a long term investment (I hate to use that term with a depreciating asset), and needed to be able to handle not only the camper we have today, but the next one as well. The diesel gave us the most options going forward, small to midsize 5th wheel, or huge bumper pull. Finally, after getting 8-9 MPG with the Expedition, we are hopeful that we see double digits while towing.

As for making the engine in Mexico, Ford is a global company and it is only fair that production is global. But, I do believe that every company that imports stuff should have to declare their corporate trade balance and pay a tax on their deficit or possibly get a credit for any trade surplus.

And yes, you should have gotten the tailgate step and the factory bed liner.

For reference my 2016 F150 crewcab with 6.5' bed and very loaded weighs 5,600lbs with bedliner, bed steps, sunroof and FX4 package. So nearly 2,000lbs lighter with more equipment. The only thing that it does not have is power steps.

You probably do have a quite a bit of wiggle room on the weight capacity. I used to run my 1991 F250 regularly with the rear axle loaded to tire capacity(about 3,500lbs). I never broke anything but I did get in the habit of downshifting every time I applied the brakes.

I think you misunderstood something along the way. I have the 6.7 Diesel, not the 6.2 Gas. As part of the added curb weight, there is a reason DW calls it the 800 pound Chihuahua under the hood. The diesel option adds 800 to the curb weight. Making the diesel engine in Chihuahua MX, that just ain't right.
