I'm going to give him the benefit of the doubt...This is so far off reality, I doubt he was purposely giving you false information or didn't understand.
Some of the 1/2 tons have a "tow rating" of 10-11k lbs...he may have simply misspoke and meant 10-11 1000lbs rather than 10-11 tons.
That's very gracious of you - and maybe it's true. More likely (IMHO) is that it was just ignorance. I haven't purchased a vehicle in 20 years where I didn't know more about what I was buying than the salesperson. - valhalla360NavigatorI'm going to give him the benefit of the doubt...This is so far off reality, I doubt he was purposely giving you false information or didn't understand.

Note: Navigator payload is 1600 lbs. and it's tow rating is 8,900 lbs. At a local Ford dealer I drove through their lot and didn't see any F-150's with towing mirrors; That was a bad sign to me. I went into their show room, took a few pictures of a nice restored Ford 9-N tractor, and got a bag of free popcorn. Salesman asked me if I was interested in buying a new vehicle or was I just there to take pictures of the tractor and eat the free popcorn. I told him that I was looking for an F-150 to tow my trailer, but I didn't see any with towing mirrors so they didn't have what I needed / wanted in stock. Salesman asked me what my trailer weighed and I told him it was 6,300 lbs. His response was that there wasn't an F-150 on the lot that couldn't tow 7,200 lbs. And my response to him was that there is no reason for me to buy a new truck that has a lower payload and tow rating than my Lincoln.
I bought my truck at a different dealer. - blt2skiModeratorI recall an engineer in the lunch room at the Duramax factory, telling me to get rid of my 6.5td, a D/A combo would pull anything I had, better, up steeper hills/grades etc......yeah right!
Bought one a few years later.......Stalled the dmax on a STEEP grade the 6.5td went up with a 12K trailer in tow! yeah right says the engineer who helped design this motor! Turns out the dmax had less gradibility than my 5 sp 6.5! On a freeway grade, yes the 300+hp left the 185hp rig on the side of the road! More to towing prowess than just HP and Torque!

- ACZLExplorerSeveral years ago I walked into a dealer. Just before walking in, I could see them straightening up their ties and all. 1st fella that comes up to me all smiles and asks if he can help me. I said: "Sure, but have a question to ask"; "What do you personally sell more of, cars or trucks?". He replied with : "Cars". I replied back: "Good, now point me in the direction of who sells trucks here". You should have seen his chest deflate and just about fall to the floor. Didn't buy from them.
Another time, a Ford salesman says that a Ranger they had on the lot had 4.10 gears and could pull a house down!! - azrvingExplorerI had a salesman tell me that the linoleum in a used rig had a long tear in it because someone snag their toe on it. After talking to him for a while he said he was retired and that his wife made him get a job there his sister-in-law owns the place. What a whimp
